A letter to the Alexandrii

Recommended Posts

Antonia Vitellia.

Another well dressed slave, a large woman carrying a scroll bearing similar adornments to that which had been sent to the Junii arrives at the Alexander domus. Red ribbon is wrapped tightly around the scroll, showing that it has yet to be opened. The parchment itself is of great quality and the markings on it have been done by a masterful scribe.

"To the Most Honorable Alexandrii,

May peace and prosperity reign in your house for years to come! You are humbly invited to the domus of the Vitellii for a celebration of the Emperor's survival as well as the celebration of friendship and goodwill that will occur in two weeks' time. All entertainment will be provided readily and food will be prepared by some of the best cooks in Rome. To have your presence there would be a blessing most wondrous to behold!

We anxiously await your reply.

-The Vitellii"

The slave waited, clearly anticipating a reply to send back to their master and mistress.

Quintus Alexander.

A responding letter arrived at the house of the Vitellii, a well dressed and handsome man servant delivered the letter. The document has been marked with a wax seal and shows it has not been opened previously. The handwriting has been done by someone with a skilled hand.

To the noble house of Vitellii,

We offer gratitude for the invitation offered to us. May the Gods truly bless your house

Due to unseen circumstances, we do not know the amount of Alexandrii that will attending the function you are offering. In due respect we will give notice a week in before the event occurs.

- Signed Quintus Alexander on behalf of Flavius Alexander.

The young man awaited the response to take to his Master.

Antonia Vitellia.

A response has been sent back, fleet-footed and true, this time a smaller, more becoming woman sending the parchment. The ribbon around it this time is blue, trimmed with gold, to display the Vitellii wealth in mundane things.

"To the Great Alexandrii:

We offer our deepest regrets if not all the Alexandrii can be present. May health and good fortune continue to rain down upon your family. However, we offer our understanding at the present time and hope that some, if not all, might attend the celebration within two weeks time. You have our deepest gratitude for sending us, soon, a list of who will be able to arrive.

-The Vitellii"

Once more the slave waits to see if she needs to bring back a response.
