Selene Zephyr.

Days and nights became like months to Selene. It felt cold once again, a empty heart was casted upon her. Not cold-hearted, just felt like she had one. She was sore from all the bruises she had in her body from the day she was raped trying to protect the Priestess, which she had. She had bruises on her stomach, legs and arms. At least her face was in good condition. She didn't want to move from her position in her bed not wanting the pain to return to her memory. It was all painful mentally and physically.

Selene was used to such behavior and that god she had not changed from it. If her master knew, she might as well be dead. She knew she was important to his plans but she didn't know how important she was. With a sigh, she sat up wincing and moaning from pain. She couldn't believe she was beaten up so badly. The pain was powerful but she was stronger. Mind over matter. She can get though this. It was all in her mind.

She walked over to the shower pealing her clothing off and taking a short shower then placing a new pair of robes on. She then made her way towards the kitchen and picked up an apple eating it with hungry eyes. She always loved the taste of apples more than anything. It was always the sweetest thing to eat. With a small smile, she threw away the remains and picked up a broom and started to sweep the house. It was her duty to keep the house clean, since she was after all one of the main slaves.

She kept on cleaning not noticing anyone nearing the door...

Ivo.

Ivo had never been so nervous in years. Pulling off a well-planned heist or lifting jewels from around women's necks was nothing compared to this. For someone who was typically such a risk taker and lived life on the edge, it was rather bizaare to have him worrying about this small meeting with the man he had met a few weeks ago. Why was he getting so worked up by it all? There was no honest explination for it.

Perhaps it was just the prospect of a new employer. They always put his guards up. You could never tell what they had in mind or what they were planning. Ivo, however, could usually figure out the plans a few days later. Or it could simply be nerves about seeing the man again. Ivo knew he ought to be grateful. If it was not for him, he would be a slave today. As much as he hated to admit it, he was indebted to this nobleman.

What an odd twist of fate that was. Just when Ivo had considered himself free of all the noblemen in Rome, one had to come along and quite literally save him. If he had not been in the market that day, Ivo would have been on the next ship out of the city and off to some distant land. Was this new employment just another way of saying slavery though? At least the pay would be good, Ivo hoped. And it would not be forever.

His friends had been pleased for him and the money that it would bring into the group. The few coins the man had given him last time had lasted up until this day. A few lay unspent in one of their suprisingly full coffers. They were not wanting for money at the moment. Trade and crime had been very profitable of late. Ivo was certainly not one to complain about this. Food and shelter were in plentiful supply for once!

It was one of these coins, or some of the money from it, which had paid for his newly updated appearance. When you had to go through the Wealthy Quarter, wearing rags was just not the done thing. He wore a tunic of dark blue and a pair of new sandals made from dark brown leather. He had even managed to get into the Baths without paying and was, as a result, clean shaven with freshly washed blond hair. Overall, Ivo didn't look at all like the street rat he was, more like an up and coming young man with the world at his feet.

Rather than the world though, at the moment there was the doorstep to the Scipio household, right where the man had said it would be. Knots were building up inside of his stomach as he moved his hand to knock on the door. Once that was done, he turned away to scan the street, checking for anyone that might have followed. It was an irrational habit of his.

Selene.

Selene's mind was filled of thoughts of all the things she had to do today. She didn't have much and all she needed to do was do the laundry. It wasn't that much right? At least it wasn't hard for her to do something so simple. She knew some women couldn't even do what she could. She sighed as she kept on cleaning the table. She never seen anything so dirty in her life. Next time, she was determined to make sure this table had stay spotless. She smiled to herself as she finished. She then chuckled then looked up at the ceiling taking a huge deep breath then letting it out after.

Selene then heard a knock and she placed the cloth on the table. She then walked over to the door and opened it with a smile on her face. It was a boy that looked her age and possibly older? It was possible, but she wasn't sure. She smiled at the boy kindly before answering him. "How may I help you?" she asked looking up at him smiling playfully as she always had done. It was something she just loved to show on her face. She then opened the door a little wider for him to walk in. "If your looking for Master Lucius, I'm sure he will arrive soon." she said smiling softly.

Ivo.

To him, it seemed perfectly acceptable to check the street and the rooves of the houses for any unwanted spectators. To others though, it seemed perfectly ridiculous. Why would anyone choose to spy on him? He was nothing more than a street rat and a ruffian, a light fingered thief with little morals to impede on his line of work. He was, essentially, lower down the social ladder than a slave but at least he had his freedom. That was something nobody could take away.

Still, Ivo understood that in Rome, information was power. That was why the man had taken the time to rescue him and gain his employment. He could hardly be seen lurking in the shadows and gathering rumours, could he? Not a senator or whatever he was. It just was not done. He, on the other hand, would certainly not look out of place doing so. In general, he was more suited to the job.

It was not hard to spy on others, he even enjoyed doing it. It was all a matter of staying concealed, blending in and never making yourself known to your target. If he had to spend the rest of his life doing one "crime", then it would be espionage. The challenge and the risk and the intelligence it took to pull it off were too rewarding and very difficult to ignore. More was at stake, that was why he enjoyed it.

Then again, there was not much for him to loose. He had no real personal effects and honestly, his life was not worth much to anyone. He had no ties or real relationships which would make him want to stop and follow a more honest living. Perhaps one day when he was older, he might settle down. However, for now, he was happy just risking it all day in, day out. Whatever anyone else thought, he adored his life at the moment.

He still scanning the street for any hidden threats or hazards when the door opened behind him, the sound followed by a soft and gentle feminine voice. Ivo turned on the spot, only to be confronted by a beautiful-looking girl, despite her somewhat shabby clothing. She was obviously the man's slave. He wondered what unfortunate situations she had gone through that led her to her current position. Lost for words for a moment, it took him a minute to gather his thoughts and respond.

She smiled at him, in a playful manner perhaps? Whatever she meant by it, it was without a doubt an attractive smile, lightening her features. He responded similarly with his trademark, mischevious smile that he rarely changed. "He asked me to meet him here, could I wait for him inside?" He spoke, not knowing what else to say really.

Selene.

"I finished my duties. But I like to think men are in a much higher position." she answered with a smile. All she did was cleaning and working in the stables. She fed the horses and she did the cleaning. It was all done. "But as you wish, I will treat you equally." she said looking up at him with her soft blue eyes. She laid her head on his shoulder. She was an affectionate little thing and she liked to be close to many man. Her master allowed for her to do so and she was able to please them as well. Selene smiled sweetly as she looked up at him. "What kind of job do you have, Ivo?" she asked wondering. She couldn't figure it out earlier and she only wanted to know. She was a curious girl. "Really?" she asked. "Well, you must be very clever if you can get information. I like clever men." she said with a soft laugh. It was true. Selene did like men that had brains.
