    Personality.

Garrulus is practical and grounded, diligent since he was a child in pursuing his goals. When he makes his mind up to do something, he commits fully, with an almost stubborn obsession. He has never been moved by duty or religion as by material power and wealth, and his disdain for the abstract means he can be very conservative and unimaginative. When he chooses a path to follow, he tends to choose the most direct and simple route rather than blazing a new trail. Still, he possesses great stores of patience and tenacity.

Growing up in an old patrician family, Garrulus is used to the finer things of life, and as such tries to surround himself with the best of everything, from food to slaves. While to him this means he has great aesthetic taste, to others it means he is fussy and dainty. He likes what he can touch and feel, and can therefore usually be found eating, drinking, or pursuing the fairer sex. His penchant for sensual pleasures has led him to become a fixture at late-night parties among the Roman ruling class.

    Appearance

Garrulus is very tall, standing 6'2" tall, with a lean and long-limbed frame. His oval face contains bright blue eyes, an aquiline nose, and protruding ears. With his exceptional appearance, he tends to stand out, even if not everyone finds him attractive. He is in good shape physically, muscular and chiseled, and has natural athletic talent. He has all the vitality and energy of someone in their twenties. He keeps his thick brown hair cut in a Caesarean style and manages to stay clean-shaven even while in the field.

    History

Titus Lucretius Garrulus comes from an ancient and wealthy patrician family from the port city of Tarentum in southern Italia. He comes from a branch of the clan known for its militaristic bearing, with many members entering the legions, where they strive to equal or surpass the war heroes of the past. These same members have tended to meet grisly ends while on campaign on the edges of the empire, from Britannia to Syria. Many say this is because of fearlessness, but some whisper that while the family is long on bravery, it is short on judgment.

As a middle brother, Garrulus had a rivalries with his two male siblings, and even an adversarial one with his father. Often overlooked, his meticulous nature arose from wanting to attract attention. He was especially close to his mother, a quiet but cunning woman, who was also cultured and highly educated. She tried to pass on an appreciation for the humanities to him, but never quite succeeded in diverting him from athleticism and militarism. He had several close friendships with the scions of other noble families, and he has maintained several of his associations over the years. This includes his best friend and cousin, Quintus Salonius Cilo, who entered military service around the same time.

Raised for careers in politics as well as the military, Garrulus was given the title of military tribune when he came of age in preparation for greater offices. While he could have avoided the front lines, he made a point of directly participating in actions his units engaged in. He was first attached to the Legio XXI Rapax and witnessed the brutal suppression and subjugation of rebelling Germanic tribes. Later, he was transferred to the Legio X Fretensis sent to pacify Judea, and he was involved in the destruction of Jerusalem and its temple. He is only new arrived to Rome, where he finds the pleasures of wine, women, and song unfamiliar but welcome changes from war.

Having already served as a tribune, Garrulus is eager to continue to climb the official ranks and enter the Senate. He is a staunch traditionalist and supporter of the Emperor, and in his conception of politics, the opposition are tantamount to traitors. He truly believes that too much devolution of power and personal freedom weakens and undermines the Empire and the strength of the Roman people. He tends to see people from other cultures as barbarians, inherently inferior compared to all things Roman. His immediate agenda is to support legislation and other politicians who want to centralize power with the emperor and to promote a bellicose foreign policy.

Shortly after arriving in Rome, Garrulus was married to his wife Volusia Lentula, a beautiful and clever woman from another noble family. Considered a good match, the two have only enjoyed a short time together, but already there is tension arising from the desire for male children. The absence of any pregnancy is not for lack of trying, and Garrulus knows the slaves are already gossiping that Lentula is barren. Not wanting to be rash, and still enjoying Lentula's company for now, Garrulus is in no rush to divorce. After all, undoing the political union between their families so soon after cementing them would only hurt the Lucretius name.

Garrulus gets through his day thanks to his chief slave, Phillippus, a middle-aged Greek scholar acquired in Judea. Phillippus schedules Garrulus' daily routine and makes sure that he makes the necessary appointments and gatherings. This can sometimes be a difficult task, and the two men have a contentious relationship held together by grudging respect (and the institution of slavery). Garrulus it not proud of how dependent he is on Phillippus, but finds his organizational services vital.

Garrulus' main political ally and benefactor is Appius Cornelius Arvina, whose connections to the family are not exactly clear, save that he was friends both with Garrulus' father and grandfather. He has met several times with Garrulus to advise him on his military and political career, which factions to court and which to avoid, and so on. It is clear that Arvina commands a great deal of influence and status within the empire, although his relationship with Garrulus is not altruistic. Instead, Arvina seems to be making an investment, planning to profit from Garrulus' own ascension as time goes on.

Honestly I'm very interested in a medieval Japanese historical RP but I also love ancient Rome!

I am looking forward to becoming a part of this community. I will be interested in military, politics, and romantic storylines... Or whatever else people might be interested in.

    Thanks!
