  1. Alaric could have sworn he heard his heartbeat in his head. Instinctive he stood closer, the sound of his sobs at first were mistaken. Perhaps he had made the wrong decision? When she shut the codex a part of him dreaded the question had even caused her offense. He wondered whether it had been the right decision. Then she spoke in his native language, and he could not help but smile briefly that she remembered it. Although it soon dropped to a more concerned facial expression instead. The trial. A sign of both her bravery and her devotion to Titus. No doubt there were relatives who were still able to offer their support. It was one thing for a devastating trial; it was another thing to sell their daughters into slavery. Alaric shook his head in confusion, not wishing this for her and slowly the realisation of what she meant began to sink in. His hand moved from her arm to rest tenderly on hers when she explained. Finally he nodded in understanding. It may not have been wise politically. Alaric had spoken for Renius, he would try for Seia and ensure her safety. Yes? Was that to the question? Or something else? "Yes, safe. Always..." He murmured. Was she trying to let him down gently without hurting his feelings? Their friendship was not dependent on the marriage taking place. He would do what he could to protect them both, regardless. Alaric stared at her and waited while she continued to explain. There was no shaking the sound of his heartbeat in his chest, no doubt she would be able to feel it under her hand. He was well-versed in Roman manners and culture. Although there were times like now when he did not fully grasp what was happening at the moment. Slowly but surely.. it was beginning to sink in. It was going to happen. She would be both his wife and his best friend rolled into one. The skin on his neck tingled with the softness of her lips. He held her close to him, his hand moved upwards to hold feel the her dark hair, and knew that this was home for him. With Seia he was home. She agreed! It may not have been overly appropriate of a noblewoman to behave like this. He did not care. "Gods... Seia...," He murmured, smiled at her with tears of happiness in his eyes and gazed at her lovingly. "You have made me the happiest man in the world."
  2. Alaric had to admit that he felt a little smug knowing that his ruse had worked. And so quickly! He now realised what it meant for her to Although it was overwhelmed by the feeling his heart pounding in his chest, his gaze rested where hers did and looked where the page had opened up to. The gold ring. Alaric could have sworn that he had words yet no sound came out. Instead he managed a nod, finally able to murmur out. "Yes... it is, yours if you want it," He answered and hoped in one action he had not ruined a precious friendship. The marriage and engagement did not follow proper traditions. He had not asked permission from her estranged father nor had they publicly declared the union with a public joining of hands. Nor was there the elaborate and ornate rings typically offered. Some with engravings, stones, and other prominent pieces of artwork. No doubt Gurges had given her a ring she would have been happy and proud of wear in the company of her peers. It probably grander than anything he was able to afford. Alaric moved to stand closer to her. A calloused hand gently touched her elbow and he leaned down, their foreheads were close to touching. His throat felt so dry and he licked his lips. The crashing of shields was less nerve racking than this moment was. "Do you want it?" He whispered. Seia Imperia
  3. Alaric was so tempted to grumble. The urge was strong yet he did not wish to lose the wager. He nodded and stood close to the codex vendor, fiddled for the ring in his coin purse and glanced in Seia's direction. Fortunately she was busy with the honey vendor and he nearly dropped it when she looked at him, he nodded and held it in his hand. He hoped that his news would not cause her to run screaming away from him. Normally he would have protested about Seia purchasing the honey for him. Especially after the financial issues she had been having. It did give them a moment to get to know each other, but still. "Yes, yes," He murmured, nodded his head to show he agreed and found a copy of a translated book on Parthian horses. One that would end up being lost to time. Alaric gestured to the vendor to come closer, whispered his plan in his ear and the vendor enthusiastically agreed to assist. No doubt wishing for some extra coin to help him. He breathed deep, exhaled and ran his hand over his head. Going into battle was less nerve inducing than this! The ring was placed in between a few pages. It was a relatively simple and modest golden band. "Seia? Do you like the look of this book? It is about Parthian horses?" He asked with a glance over his shoulder.
  4. He had a sinking feeling that they would be looking at many carpets. Hopefully it would not take him too far away from his goal, or he would be stuck listening to pushy vendors all day. "Yes.... carpets," He answered slowly, already he regretted his choice in random distraction. Alaric hoped the codex vendor was not in the opposite direction. "Yes, he seems to be ... pushy.." Alaric answered, looked around and the pair of them had different goals in mind. He had to mentally fight the urge to grumble to himself -- he would not lose the wager! "Honey? Hm... I believe there was one near a codex vendor. I could get some for the kids," He said, spoke about his children. Even Barbara who was certainly well beyond girlhood. Alaric was pulled along and walked, then grinned wide and pointed in the direction of the honey vendor. With the codex vendor beside it. "There it is!" He exclaimed brightly and a little too enthusiastically for shopping for honey. A food that he did not particularly care for. "Come! Let's get it!" He said, took her by the arm gently and began to hurry over to it. His heart began to beat quicker in his chest. Soon... soon he would ask.
  5. "Good, good." He answered. His fingers curled to hold her hand in his, the tender gesture nearly made him lose his sense of purpose. Alaric had a goal in mind and he did not wish to lose it. In truth, he wanted her here as an excuse and looked around for that damned codex vendor. His stall must have been further along than they had reached. "Well... besides getting some things for the household, I .. uh... thought to find some...," He said, glanced past Seia's head to see some Parthian carpets being sold by an overly excited vendor, and immediately added. "Carpets... for the house." Smooth, Alaric.. real smooth. Now all he had to do was find that book vendor....
  6. Alaric came so close to grumbling in response. Fortunately he had caught himself on, chuckled and gave her a cheeky point of his finger to let her know that he was onto her. And that she would not be the victor so easily. Their kiss had been one that had haunted his dreams. He had loved the other women in his life, each was special in their own way. Yet Seia was different. She was a combination of all the women, she called to his heart and spending time with her was a blessing. Alaric could only hope that this question would not be too bold or would endanger their friendship. One that he had come to depend on these days more than he cared to admit. Alaric was a practical man and yet, here he was... day dreaming. Her words brought him out of his daydream and exhaled sharply. He had never thought that much about his clothing. So long as it was clean, workmanlike and functional. It was all fine by him. "Oh no, I would not dream of taking your palla. Do you want to risk that it would look better on me?" He joked (or rather, admitted to), raised his chin with pretend snobbery. Who could possibly compare to Seia? Alaric thought for a moment. A perfect answer that would allow him to give her a present, conceal what was coming, and be a later source of amusement for them both. "If I give you a gift. You would need to accept it." He answered without a jest this time. Although Alaric hoped she would do so without the bet in mind for either of them. Seia Imperia
  7. Their relationship had already ruffled many feathers. He was secure, favoured, and already incredibly smitten with Seia. At this point, Alaric was still a member of the praetorian guard and kept a hidden, watchful eye on the remaining Imperials. Who could have thought he had the skill to be discreet? Admittedly their relationship had progressed quicker than what was deemed appropriate. Not that he cared. They had met long before their relationship had progressed, yet this was the first time they had spoken was here at the market. Her defiance and willingness to defy Cyprianus was admirable. It endeared her to him, even though her late husband would have utterly despised him for who he was. He had plans for the day. It was not necessarily as though he could speak to her father. Since he was not overly gifted in concealing his expression. He smirked wickedly at the thought and fortunately she had yet to turn. He dropped his facial expression to his usual neutral one. His pale eyes watched as she turned around and felt the sides of his lips itch to smile. Alaric chuckled, shook his head in amusement yet he was not someone who was willing to lose a wager. Or was unwilling to rise to challenge. Every day she gave him joy in these trying times... "Ah, I see. And what do I win if I do not grumble? Hm?" He asked in return. "Considering the size of the wager it would need to be something considerable," Alaric answered, occasionally glanced to ensure she did not walk into anyone or slip. Seia Imperia

    Roman naming conventions

ROMAN NOMENCLATURE General Information By our time period in AeRo, the early Imperial Era, Roman names (for a male citizen) typically consisted of three parts. Known as tria nomina, the three parts were as follows: praenomen - the given name, or first name nomen - the gentile name, or name of the gens/clan the person belonged to cognomen - the name of a family line within a gens Sometimes a second or third cognomen, called agnomen, was added. Usually agnomen were used to signify something in particular about the person, whether they were very religious (Pius), or conquerors of Africa (Africanus). The nomen and cognomen were almost always hereditary. For an example, let's use the name of famous Gaius Julius Caesar, the first dictator-for-life of Rome. (Praenomen will be in red, nomen will be in blue, and cognomen will be in purple.) Gaius Julius Caesar There were only a small number of personal names in use, and the same praenomina tended to be used again and again in families; in particular, the first-born son was usually named after his father. Gaius Julius Caesar, in historical terms, was really Gaius Julius Caesar IV -- with three men coming before him that shared the same name. Second or third sons were often named after fathers, uncles, or even brothers. In rare occasions -- and almost exclusively in two families -- a name that was traditionally the family's cognomen would be used as a praenomen. For example, the emperor Nero. His father by adoption, the historical Claudius, had been born Tiberius Claudius Nero. And thus, when Nero (originally named Lucius) was adopted by Claudius, he took the name Nero Claudius Caesar. Another example is the name Faustus, which originally existed as a cognomen, but came to be used as a praenomen. As stated above, there were just over a handful of praenomens used in Rome. There are around 15 'accepted' names, though really half of those were quite rare. Below is the list of common praenomen, along with their abbreviations. Any in italics are considered rare. If your character's name is not here, then just explain that your character has a very untraditional praenomen: --Appius (Ap.) --Aulus (A.) --Caeso/Kaeso (K.) --Decimus (D.) --Faustus (traditionally used only by Cornelii-Sullae) --Gaius/Caius (G./C.) --Gnaeus/Cnaeus (Gn./Cn.) --Lucius (L.) --Mamercus (Mam.) (used only by the Aemilii) --Manius (M'.) --Marcus (M.) --Numerius (N.) --Octavius (more commonly a nomen) --Postumus (more commonly an agnomen) --Publius (P.) --Quintus (Q.) --Sextus (Sex.) --Spurius (S.) --Tiberius (Ti.) --Titus (T.) --Vibius (V.) Names for Women Women were named in a manner slightly different from men. Very rarely did a woman have a third name, unless it was given as a recognition of her husband's feats. (For example, Augusta was given to the wife of the Emperor on several occasions.) Typically, women were named after their father's nomen and cognomen. So, if a character were to have a child (i.e. Renius Suetonius Metellus), his daughter would be Suetonia Metella, for example. In the Imperial Era, if a second daughter was born (or if a character had a niece already named Suetonia Metella, for example) a daughter would keep the feminine version of her father's nomen, and be given a different name in place of the feminine cognomen. Let's use the above character and his wife as an example, and pretend Renius has two daughters... Renius Suetonius Metellus (husband) + Antonia Metella (wife) = Suetonia Metella, the eldest daughter = Suetonia Antonilla. She is named after her mother, Antonilla meaning, "Little Antonia". Females often received names with the ending "-illa" in place of the normal "-a" in order to distinguish them as the child of someone in particular. When a woman married she had the option of simply retaining her maiden name, or changing her second name to the feminine form of her husband's. For example when Livia Drusilla married Augustus, she was called both Livia Drusilla and Livia Caesaris. It is up to you as the player which form you want for your character. Adoption Adoption within the aristocratic families was a very, very common thing throughout Roman history. Along with adoption came important political ties, monetary assets, prestige (for the adoptee), and for the Emperor, knowledge that the line would continue on (even if it wasn't a blood-relation.) However, adoption changed names quite a bit. The prime example is Octavian. Octavian (or Augustus) was born Gaius Octavius Thurinus -- named after his father -- and was the great-nephew of Julius Caesar. Upon Caesar's death, Augustus was adopted, as per Caesar's will, and became the man's heir. Upon his adoption, his name changed. Gaius Octavius Thurinus became, Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus... giving us his 'historical name' Octavian. Octavian later dropped 'Octavianus' completely when the name Augustus was bestowed upon him by the Senate. Every emperor after him followed his precedent. The rule for adoption is really quite simple. 1. The adoptee takes either the praenomen of his adoptive father, or keeps his own. 2. The adoptee drops his nomen and cognomen, and adopts that of his adoptive father. 3. The adoptee adds the root of his biological father's nomen (for Octavian, Octavi) and adds "-anus" to the end of it. (There is also evidence of an adopted son taking the root of his father's cognomen and adding "-anus".) Slaves and Freedmen Slaves were most often given whatever name their master decided to give them. Typically a Roman wouldn't care what a slave's real name was, and would almost always give them a Latin name to begin the process of Romanization. Or, the slaves would be given names of famous historians and people from history/mythology. If a slave were freed by his master and became a freedman, his name would change. Upon being freed, a slave took the praenomen and nomen of his master, and added what had been his slave name as a cognomen. If he was freed by a woman, he took the names of the woman's father. For example, let's use my character's illegitimate child, Khai. If Khai were freed his name would become: Renius Suetonius Caius. And though he would not be a member of any aristocracy, his name signified the person who became his patron. However, typically a freedman's son would continue to carry the same name. Freedwomen took the nomen of their mistress and added their slave name. So, Emuishere (Renius' slave) would become Antonia Emuishere -- or probably something more Latinized than Emuishere. However, there was an L (for Liberti) and the initial of the Dominus' praenomen. So, Emuishere would become Antonia R.L Emuishere and Khai would become, Renius Suetonius R.L Caius. Essentially, it means the freedperson of and distinguishes them from the other family. Resources for Names This site is spectacular for finding names. It explains some of the mechanics behind naming as well, though it's a bit long-winded. And there is also Nova Roma's Choosing a Roman name. These are lists on Wikipedia, but still worthwhile: Roman Praenomia Roman Gens/Nomina Roman Cognomia Written by Chris.

  11. I thought that everyone would have some questions about the move that has taken place. Please bear with us during this time. Do I register my OOC account still? Yep, but no character accounts. Check out the guide to make a character mask here. Are my characters still accepted? Yes, they are. Although if your character is politically based, please check the site timeline and edit accordingly. Most characters would only need to make a few edits to become accurate. You will need to go through the site approval process once more. It is strongly recommended that a member reads through the site timeline to get an understanding about what the site history is. Canons have two months after the opening date to be joined on this site. However, ALL characters must be re-apped and approved. I was kicked from the site discord! What happened? You did not move to the new site in the two months period. You are more than welcome to come back and re-join the server. How long will it take for the threads to be transferred over? As long as it takes. Once you have been accepted the posts have been transferred over to your account. Please edit them to put them under your character's account. There are still a lot of current threads in progress. Closed threads will go into the archives right away. What do I do if a thread was archived when I am still posting in it? Send me a PM. Mistakes happen! I'll move it to the correct location. How long will it take for my posts to be put in my name? As soon as possible. Members will likely need to convert the post to their character's post. Is there anyway I can help? Please send me a PM or a DM on discord if you would like to help with the progress. How long will it take to completely get things moving? Hopefully, a couple of weeks. Hoping nothing goes wrong irl. What happens to the old Jcink board? It will become a back up board for the community. What about the old domain? I still own that. Later if more information can be taken from it, it will re-direct to this site.
  12. The Registry. The registry is where players are able to keep an easy record of when big life changes occur, and for everyone to have an easy way to find when these events occurred without having to dig through old threads. Please remember to respect for your fellow rpers, and the staff will check to ensure players consent to these events occurring. Births. Goes here. Deaths. Goes here. Divorces. Goes here. Marriages. His education was focused on commerce and coin rather than reading for amusement or pleasure. Who was an ally to Rome. It is unknown whether this is true or not. The family became citizens through service through the Roman war machine or were merchants who sold Egyptian linen and silks from the East to Rome. The demand with the wealthy meant the family continued to rise upwards. The family have estates in North Africa and a respectable home in Rome itself. Most of the family will be made into wanteds at some point. History Gaius was born in 4CE as the second born child and firstborn son of Gaius Petronius Aquilius Major and Scribonia Afrikana. His family was stable, hard working and determined that he would be a constructive member of Roman society. The family had originally gained their citizenship through military service, and he learned about coinage, economics, fabrics (quality for the family business), and he tended to this side of things until he was seventeen years of age. While he wanted to join the army, the family business was considered to be more important and he stayed behind. He married Aurelia Paulina in late 37CE,and his eldest daughter, called Petronia Aquila was born in 38CE. In late 40CE, the family had the birth of another child to welcome into the family and he was happy. In 41CE his third daughter was brought into the family. He visited a sooth-sayer who told him he would be blessed with happiness, healthy daughters, and a long life. Yet he would not father any sons. Always always his mind would go back to the time when he met people from distant lands and thought more about them. their lives, and their stories. They were largely successful, and during this period of time he was blessed with many children (and later there would be grandchildren). In 44CE, Maurentia was now made into a Roman province and removed from the Kingship of old. Fortunately, his family had been romanised for several generations and their wealth had elevated them into becoming Equites. His grandfather had served and had given the family citizenship. Other time, the last of his daughters were married with his strictfulness slowly giving way to warmth, happiness and a desire for enjoyment. In 52CE the business enterprise in Aegyptus was lessened due to the growing nationalism that slowly died down, and was restored. Other than that, those years were mostly uneventful for him and his family. The years of 53CE and 54CE were mostly uneventful for Gaius, although there were incidents when minor issues would impact the amount of trade they were able to conduct. Through the years he had heard about the conflicts of Rome, normally from a distance from the home in Lepis Magna and felt blessed to not be caught in the middle of it. The family had history in Lepis Magna and patroned many of the buildings within the city. In the conflict of the civil war in 61CE, his daughter and his son-in-law were both killed with his two granddaughters coming to live with him. The family mostly resided there until 63CE when Gaius came to Rome to reside there to manage the family business while his nephew, manages that side from Lepis Magna or Alexandria. The family had now been living in Rome for nearly a decade, still maintaining trade and the connections that had been made. 64CE to 71CE were mostly uneventful for him other than expanding the buildings, and being about to spend time with his wife, Aurelia. Their home was a place of warmth, laughter and joy. The extended members of the family lived with them. With all of his daughters married, it was his duty to ensure all of his grandchildren would marry well and go on to live happy and virtuous lives. For close to ten years he managed the family business. Slowly and surely, age began to take a toll on his body and mind. His eldest daughter and her husband began to take more of a prominent role in the family business. In 72CE, the Gods finally took his wife into the afterlife. Aurelia had passed away during the night in her sleep surrounded by her family and loved ones. Gaius (and the rest of the family) paid for a funerary monument for her along the Via Appia among the greatest members of Rome. Since then, his eldest daughter and son-in-law took over the family business, running things and giving him more time to relax in his twilight years. Since he had no sons of his own. He formally adopted his grandson who would inherit the family business. This extra time and loneliness from not having his wife with him meant he had more time to ponder and spend time with his grandchildren. In 73CE, he decided now was the time to begin his quest to learn more about the various people of Rome. Gaius began meeting with people and writing about them -- any rank. All their stories needed to be told. Gothy | GMT+11 | PM or Discord

  18. Quintus Sulpicius Rufus. FORTY-TWO | seventh month 29CE | SENATORE | SENATOR | Bi-curious | Wanted | John Hannah Personality. He is quiet, unassuming, and at first glance he could be considered to be cold towards others. He has seen many men rise and fall. Despite this quiet, he will act behind the scenes to protect his own interests and to ensure the survival of his family. A political match that soon turned into a loving one, something that came to his surprise. At all times, he is polite and civil. Even when it comes to dealing with his foes. Quintus has an ability to lure people into a false sense of security about him. A gift that makes him an able politician. Quintus is a man of uncomplicated yet refined tastes. Why have many women when you can have the finest quality? Together Cornelia and he are in a relationship with a freedwoman called, Sulpicia L Venusiana (Venusiana) in an equal partnership. How could one man be so blessed? When it comes to his children he leaves most of their early education to their mother, especially the daughters who would likely learn as mcuh as they can. He proudly teaches his sons what he knows and believes about human nature, politics, and the kinds of people that will likely cause issues. While he is not overly affectionate, he has held his children and offered his congratulations when they have made him proud. Appearance Quintus stands at 5'8 tall. He has a calm demeanour and it shows in his facial expressions. His face is always clean shaven (except during times of grief). His hair is a light brown, flecked with grey and cropped short. Maternal (Grandfather, Senator) Marcus Plancius Magnus Marcus Plancius Magnus Minor age 40. Plancia Magnilla Extended family on the Plancia-Magna page. Other: The Freedwoman: Sulpicia L Venusiana Related to the Corneli-Scipiii through his spouse. History Born in 29CE, Quintus was a quiet and studious boy. His sister was the elder, the apple of his father's eye and was fussy and protective. He was a small child, quiet yet interested in the world around him. He learned the traits that he . Later, his little brother was born (year here) and was his opposite. Bold, brash and wanting nothing more than to be a famous Legatus. He followed his father to the Senate and eagerly listened to the debates that occurred on the lead up to the august building, although what struck him as more interesting was watching the men who served in the Senate and learning about their personality traits. What made these men tick? How did they grow and develop? At the age of nineteen (48CE) he was one of the Viginitiviri and specifically served as a decemviri stlitlibus iudicanus. This gave him further understanding concerning the affairs of freedmen and slaves. Something that would come in handy many years into the future with Venusiana. He served for an additional term and found himself drawn to these matters of state. His father recommended that he gain some experience within the legions to benefit his political career. Quintus was sent to Illyria in 50CE and fortunately it was a relatively peaceful period within the empire. In 55CE he was discharged and prepared for his life within the Senate body. Political sphere. Quintus became a Senator in 59CE when he had reached and gained political position. Loosely he aligned himself with supporters of the Caesars and it became more absolute with his later marriage to Cornelia Scipionis. Herself a relative to Darius Caesar and later on, Junus Caesar. A time of hostility towards the Senate and frustration. At times he began to wonder whether he should have chosen a military path yet from his previous experience. He knew it would have done neither Rome nor himself any good. Married Cornelia Scipionis in 59CE. It was a political union, one that he had made out of duty and found himself drawn to his beautiful new wife. Soon though, he valued her intelligence and input of what she had to say. Admittedly, he did wonder about Annthea's influence on his wife and later come to believe that it had saved his life. Together they had a son to call their own, named in his honour and he felt a change inside him. They had a body slave called Venusiana that the pair of them gained a fond affection for that developed into love. A few years after the fact they freed her. Eyes on the crowd. In 60CE the Augusta died and soon Honorius Caesar and Junus Caesar were both killed in their respective areas. An event that shocked the people of Rome. There were many voices who opposed Cyprianus and his desperate grasp for power. Like many, he was nearly killed in order to prevent him from reaching the Senate and unfortunately, he (and the others) were not able to put a stop to it. Therefore he fell silent and with the supporters who did not like Cyprianus. They remained quiet until his crimes would finally become too great for even his supporters to ignore. . 62CE Clemens purge. Both Consuls at the time were put to the sword. Fortunately for Quintus, many of his extended family members were not currently in Rome. He did not send for Cornelia, instead preferring that she remain safely away from the capital and was happy that Venusiana was there with her to support her. There was not much he could do. At first, he was relatively quiet about what he was going to do and who he was going to support. Outwardly, he was compliant with Clemens and wanted to ensure that his family survived. If the young prince Tiberius remained alive, he would support him when he finally came of age and understood that Rome needed to be governed by an effective leader to end the tyranny of the later years. The only candidate was Quintus Alexander. The Civil war. Went to the East to support Quintus and paid large bribes to ensure that his wife and children would not come to any harm. When Quintus Alexander has his final victory he returns to Cornelia and Venusiana. They embrace and hold each other. Unable to let each other go. Happy their family was all reunited once more, and he began to settle into the new regime. He celebrates in his home with a glass of wine upon the news of the death of Clemens. At the end of the year, another glass is had for when Cyprianus was murdered after Seia Imperia won her trial against him. 63CE Quintus Alexander becomes the next Caesar leading to a decade of peace and prosperity. Much of his time is devoted to supporting the Senate, protecting his family interests and building up. Due to his wealth and connections, every so often someone who would try to approach him trying to pry information out of him-- and often revealing more of their intentions that they previously believed. 64CE birth of third child, Rufiana. With 65 to 67CE being largely uneventful in terms of events for his family. In 67CE, Quintus Caesar and Julia Drusilla are both married in a ceremony attended by the movers and shakers of Rome. In 68CE they celebrated the birth of the fourth child following the death of the Cornelia Annthea, the matriarch who taught the female members of her family how to survive and thrive in the political sphere of Rome. Her son, Quintus Caesar gave the eulogy at her funeral (along with being deified) and her life was celebrated while the family mourned the passing of the respectable matron. 69-71CE were times of relative quiet with nothing particular of note happening for him. In 72CE he served as Consul in the most recent year before the last, and became increasingly aware of Quintus' son Titus and Tiberius both being considered possible heirs with neither being pushed in favour of the other. In the current time, he maintains himself as a Senator of Rome and is distantly married a relative of the Imperial family. He aims to keep and advance his family through Rome. One thing could be said about him -- he is a political survivor. GOTHIC | GMT+11 | PM or Discord.
  19. Pontia Comina. 48 | 1st/JAN/23CE | Senatore| Virgo Vestalis Maxima | Lesbian| Canon | LINDSEY DUNCAN Personality. She is traditional and devoted to the Roman Gods. In particular, to the Goddess Vesta and watches over her charges like a devoted mother hen. The last thing she desires is for one of them to be punished by an overly ambitious youth or for the Gods to cast down their wicked eye on Rome. Rome must always be in the Gods favour. She finds happiness and peace in her tasks. Is temperate and considerate where her duties are concerned. Despite coming from a background that traditionally would not be accepted into the Vestals. Every day she treats the chance as a blessing given to her that could have been denied. However, since she has been elevated, her family has also risen in prestige and influence. Pontina sees herself as a mother figure over the younger Vestals, and takes a great deal of pride at their training. She misses her old friend, Lepida who served as a Vestal with her before leaving the order to marry. For her, this is a position she will have for life. It is her calling, her truth, and her reason for being. Her thoughts are constantly on her lover, her beloved Caecilia who is married with children. Since she is traditional and accepts some of the Gods such as; Cybele, Isis, and even the fact Mithras has a calling to the soldiers. She is wary of the Jewish and Christian God nor does she trust any of the people who follow him either. Pontia is biased against them and finds hatred in her heart for Romans who forsake the Gods of their ancestors for this imposter. Appearance Her face is free from cosmetics. Youth has slowly faded from her face yet her facial features show she was once a beautiful woman. Fine lines appear around her eyes. Her hair is a dark copper, curled and always styled when she is in public. Her eyes are green, expressive and clearly show her intentions. Pontia wears a polite mask to convey her wishes. Dignified, quiet, and it shows in her face. Yet smile lines show on either side of her lips. Pontia's clothing during her official duties is the traditional clothing of her order. When she is in private, her clothing is simple and her hair loose. Family Father: Gaius Pontius Cominus (65.) Mother: Vennia Carracalla (deceased) Siblings: Pontia Cominalla (40) (deceased during childbirth)(full sibling) Titus Pontius Cominus (38) (Full sibling) Caius Pontius Cominus (30) (Full sibling) Spouse: None. Children: None. Extended family. Stepmother: Vibia Nieces and Nephews. Titus' kids. Gaius Pontius Cominus -- 20 Pontia Cominalla -- 15 Lucius Pontius Cominus -- 12 Caius' kids. Caius Pontius Cominus -- 7 Other: Pontifex Maximus: Quintus Caesar. The Vestals: Calpurnia Praetextata Vettenia Sabimilla Belicia Modesta Flavia Mamilia Cloelia Torquata Caecilia Metella Major: deceased lover History CHILDHOOD [23- 36CE]: She was born in 23CE to a loving family. Her childhood was happy yet mostly unremarkable except for one factor. At nine years old (32CE), she was chosen to become one of the Vestals with the Caesar presented as the Pontifex Maximus. Pontia was unsure of the political reasons for why someone normally not eligible was chosen to take part in the order. Yet the Gods called. She began to learn the rites of the flame, the law, and the extra privileges that she would have. She longed to be with her family once more. However, sacred Vesta had called her to another path, and it was one she took to with happiness. In 34CE, she bled and normally would have been married if not for Vesta's calling. There were those among her order who were drawn to the idea of an affair -- despite the danger involved. Yet she had no interest. At the time, she believed there was no man who would take her interests and soon found herself drawn to sapphic love. Her earliest years were dedicated to learning the craft and devoting herself to the Goddess. Around this time, she met Caecilia and she took her breath away. The pair began to have a secret and mostly chaste relationship together. Caecilia remains the love of Pontia's life. TEENAGE TO EARLY ADULT [37 - 55CE]: She took her training seriously over the years. The sacred duty and the peeks gave her greater position in society than she had previously had. In the year, 55CE she took over from Lepida Agrippa as the Virgo Vestalis Maxima and enjoyed spending time training the younger Vestals. The considerable perks were beneficial, she tried her best to avoid politics although Rome was never without it. Her new position oversaw the kidnap of one of her order, and later, the girl was removed from it rather than permit her to tarnish the honour of Vesta. Despite the fact it was not the girl's fault. ADULTHOOD [56- 73CE]: Pontia watched the events unfold with the civil war and everyday would pray to Vesta for peace. Despite all, she had no doubt that Rome would be eternal. Her duties were her primary focus, and she did her best to stay out of politics. One of the Vestals was kidnapped by Cotta and she urged politicians to see sense. When he failed in his goal, she was relieved with the safe returned and wondered if the Gods had stripped her of her virtue. She may have liked the girl but what came first. While she was able to preserve the girl's life by permitting her to escape under a new alias, there was no way she could remain a servant of the Goddess Vesta. She had to choose between a friendship or her divine duty to the Goddess? In late 62CE, Quintus Alexander became Caesar and it brought many long years of peace to Rome. She tried to warn Claudia Livia about how her marriage to Ursus was invalid due to his mother being a lowborn slave, unfortunately, her warning was either blocked or ignored as the Princess proceeded with the marriage. Perhaps a sign of a threat or worse? Pontia could not tell. Another sign of the false Pontifex Maximus misusing their sacred traditions in order to manipulate the politics of Rome. Soon after, the position was restored to the position of Caesar once more. Throughout the various causes of strife she remained neutral. Despite her strong dislike for the murder of Romans and protected their wills, as part of her sacred duty to Vesta. She made a silent pledge to never leave the order. Her heart broke in 70CE when her beloved Caecilia passed away. While many knew she mourned the loss of a friend, she had lost the other side of her heart and mourned the loss. Her duty allowed her to dedicate her time to the service of the Goddess, and through her, Rome. 73CE: Current time. GOTHY | GMT+11 | PM & DISCORD
  20. Octavius Flavius Alexander 40 | 16th April 33AD | Imperial | Occupation | Heterosexual | Canon | Ken Duken Personality. Octavius has matured over the years due to the passing of time and the tragic events that have followed him. Much of his optimism has faded over the years as the boy grew into a man. He is a loyal friend, often going out of his way for them and ensuring their safety. His love for his family is a recurring factor for Octavius. He is considerate and protective towards them, wanting both happiness and unity. He is a devoted father and uncle towards the children of his family, often finding them pleasant to be around and enjoys the banter as it reminded him of a less complicated time. Through their happiness he is able to relive his childhood. While at one point he was distant to his brothers, the conflict and prosperity that followed allowed him to bond with them. The extended members of his family also share this affection, with him often ensuring many of them are cared for and he insists that his family stay with him when they're in Rome. Octavius has been married to his wife Valeria for over a decade, and has two children with her. He loves and respects his wife, the pair have a healthy relationship. His long time Mistress and freedwoman, Flavia Portia he has more of a friendship with now. His time of spending time in brothels and the excitement of the city no longer pleases him. His children are his pride and joy. No matter how busy he is; he always tries to make sure he gets to spend even a small piece of time with each of them and cares for them dearly. At one time, the young Octavius had Republican leanings and silently thought of these. The threats to his family caused him to put aside this belief, they rose with the Caesars and now his eldest brother is Caesar. His safety and those of his family now depend on the success of the Princeps. Octavius' aspirations have changed considerably over the years. While he still yearns for his military days, he now wishes to work on a variety of building projects to leave his own mark on Rome, and to benefit the people. Over the years Octavius has gone from a happy go lucky fellow to being more cynical. He still has a good humour, while he is capable of killing someone on the battlefield the concept of murder still causes him considerable distaste. That being said, he is realistic enough to know that sometimes it is necessary for the greater good and will see it done. Octavius' fears were realised during the purges that culled down many members of his extended family. While he doubts this is likely to happen again. Appearance Octavius stands at 5'10 tall. Octavius' is fairer in complexion than his brothers. His hair lightens depending on the climate and how much sun he is exposed to. He has smile lines around his mouth with a wide smile, his teeth are white and he still has retained them. He has blue eyes. When he is in Rome his face is clean shaven as expected of a Roman man. His build is still muscled from his time in the armed forces. While there has been years since; he maintains his physical body through the gymnasium and horse riding. Not to mention helping to train his sons and nephews. His casual clothing is a simple tunica when he is at home and around family. His rank would often mean that he wears a tunica laticlavia during is Senatorial meetings. Family Father: Cneaus Flavius Alexander Germanicus (deceased) Mother: Cornelia Annthea (deceased) Siblings: Quintus Flavius Caesar Alexander Augustus (b. ) Rufus Flavius Alexander (deceased) Flavia Lucilla Augusta (b. 24) Jullus Flavius Alexander (b. 24) Decimus Flavius Alexander (deceased) Laelius, Marcus Aemilius Scaurus Alexander (b. 39) Spouse: Valeria Maxima Children: Octavlus Flavius Alexander Minor (b. ) Flavia Valeriana (b. ) Extended family. The Flavi-Alexandrii The Corneli-Scipii The Claudii-Sabucii Former spouses - --Previous Wife - Julia Aquila, Early twenties, Died --Previous Betrothal - Arria Sanurra, Late teens, Broken off. History In 33CE, Octavius was born to Cneaus Flavius Alexander and to Cornelia Annthea. He was born as one of the many sons of the famous general and through most of his childhood his father was away on campaign. He barely knew the man. Many of his elder brothers were either busy with their training or were already sent away. He is a boisterous, happy and excitable toddler. Always getting into everything and having to be watched by his nanny to ensure he did not get himself into mischief. The next few years follow Octavius growing from a toddler to a child. Other than a few childhood diseases, the young Octavius is healthy and grows at a steady pace. His childhood and early teenage years were happy. He begins to find an interest in the Republic virtues that Rome was founded on. In 38CE, his sister, Lucilla, marries Gaius Livius Cassianus (a highly wealthy and influential Senator) and leaves the family home to live with her husband. He does not see her as often as he used to. Loosely between the years, 39- 44CE, Laelius is born in 39AD and his sister Lucilla marries Marcus Honorius for the first time. He is determined to be a good brother for him and to look after him, and took pride in the fact that he would be an older brother to somebody. At last! While he starts to understand that politics is and will always surround his family. He turns a blind eye to it, instead focused on developing his skills. Begins training with a wooden sword, and finds he has skill in it. He learns to read and write in Latin. While Octavius is capable, he often finds himself bored with learning about philosophies and finds an unlikely interest in the Republic of old. There was something about it that appealed to him with the ideals that not one man would rule. In 45CE, he met Darius for the first time, began friendship with him and the pair become firm friends. Octavius was idealistic, thoughtful, and was content in his lot in life. While Darius differed greatly in his personality. The pair were opposites. Octavius was considerably older than his nephew he wanted to ensure his younger nephew was taken care of. 46 to 48AD -- Comes of age. Octavius was given Portia as a slave. She was a little older than he was and soon became his confidante. During these earlier years there is considerable passion between the two of them and he knew he would not be permitted to marry her. As time went on she changed from lover to a confidante and friend. 49 - 50AD -- Serves in Parthia under his uncle Lucius Scipio Major at the rank of tribune. This was his first taste of army life in the long Roman tradition of serving in the army. The time period was largely peaceful and saw no particular conflict of note. He learned about military life first hand, and found that he enjoyed the sense of honour and belonging that it had. During the battles he witnessed briefly the skill of his elder brother Quintus, although did not serve directly beneath him and the pair not did bond during that period of time. In the conflict, the Legatus Lucius Scipio Major died due to a septic wound and Octavius assisted in bringing a message back to his mother's side of the family. It gave him a some time to meet and to interact with them. His time in the east was a revealing one for him. He was able to see the different culture and like other men in his family found himself drawn in by Eastern women. In 51CE, he returned to Rome, finds the family much the same and spends time with his family members, friends and extended network. His older sister Lucilla marries Claudius. Sees Darius, Junus and Rufia Flavia move into the Imperial palace. It does not greatly impact him as he becomes a regular visitor to see his family. Members of his family begin to plan his political and military future. During this time he meets several people in Rome, and becomes increasingly aware of him being one of many brothers. He meets his niece by marriage Claudia Livia although they do not spend considerable amounts of time together. 52 - 55AD -- His family make plans to decide whether he would stay in Rome or whether he would continue his military career. Reforms his friendship with Darius and wants to protect him from harm. Forms a friendship with his paternal cousin, Titus Flavius Alexander Minor as well as many others. Some who remain alive during the current time and others who have passed away. Claudius slips into a coma. Octavius is largely unsure what will occur and promises to protect his family from any harm. During his time he is loosely aware of the politics involving his family. He takes a greater interest in the restoration of the Res Publica and hopes to encourage Darius to think along those lines. In 54AD Darius becomes Caesar with the Quinquevirate in place to watch over him. Octavius takes steps to do what he can to defend him as much as possible. His family work on finding him another position to help serve the family. 56AD -- Claudius is assassinated. Works with Atellus with the investigation into Claudius' death under the Magister Militium Fluvius Stilicho's orders. Finds himself conflicted throughout and it begins an awkward friendship with Atellus. During this year his Pater passed away and he is oblivious to the reasons why. At the time he believed it was natural causes although over the years he has silently wondered about the reason why his father had died. Later in the year there is an assassination attempt on Darius, the direct threat to his kinsman is the reason why his Republican ideals slowly began to fade away. It meant his family would be torn apart. It left him having these ideals come up and fade throughout his life. In 57CE, Octavius traveled with his nephew, Darius, and the army that is traveling to invade Britannia. Octavius travels with his nephew to Britannia. During a scouting expedition he is captured by some of the tribes. The men who he was with perish. A man, who he never discovered his name tells him he would be crucified and sacrificed to the British Gods for the Roman attack on the tribes of Britain. Octavius does not believe he would survive, all he could hope for is to die with honour that would make his family proud or to be rescued. Octavius was flogged, tortured and did not know whether he would live or die. He met a young woman called Briana among their number, a native Briton who was at odds with the tribal leaders and the night before he was to be sacrificed to the Gods. During the darkness of night he escapes with the British girl who remains with him during this time and manages to get back to the army. Octavius does not speak of the events that took place. His fingers are reset, his wounds are treated and falls into a dreamless sleep. Later he fights in final battle and first witnessed a ruthlessness inside him when he slaughtered those who had taken him prisoner. After the victories in Britannia, the legion travels to Gaul and returns to Rome with Darius who is showing signs of sickness. Octavius pressures Darius to seek medical aid, although Darius brushes him off and begins to believe his divinity. In December, he attends the Imperial banquet that was made in celebration for the victories in Britannia. He attends with Sanurra. Darius falls into a coma at the Imperial banquet. It is unknown whether it was illness or poison that was the cause. In the year, 58CE the death of Darius by fever. Octavius found himself angry, frustrated and desperately wanted to know what he could have done to change how things went. Octavius wondered what he could have done to save his life, and spends much of his time wondering what could be done. He vows to support Honorius and his nephew, Junus as co-caesars. Lucilla and Honorius remarry to his happiness. Despite this, he understands the political reasons why it would make sense for them to marry. During this time period, Junus also comes of age and he is proud of his nephew. Betrothal halted by Quintus in favour of another match that falls through due to family conflict. Octavius is heartbroken, angry and resentful at being forced to break off the betrothal. However, he obeys his paterfamilias and goes to Sanurra's home to tell her that it can never be. Both of them grieve for what might have been. Octavius remains friends with Sanurra although rarely sees her in the current day. He is torn between enjoying being in Rome with his family and wanting to return to military life. In 59CE, his mother becomes engaged to Publius Natta. 21. MARCUS FALCO. Thirty-nine | 31st February 34CE | PLEBEIAN | CRIMINAL | Bisexual | Original | JEFFERY DEAN MORGAN Personality. Marcus is a man with little morality, or compassion for other human beings. At least, that is how he sees himself. As for vices, he indulges in dice games ( the reason why he descended into debt), prostitutes, and petty crime in order to get by. He is possessive, unwilling to share what he believes to be his, and often finds himself having difficulty to control his anger. He likes to rant and preach about the worth of "true" Romans, unlike these fake Romans who are not true Romans. Marcus will do this to anyone who would listen to his ravings. It mainly occurs when he has been drinking. He tries to distance himself from his wife and children in a twisted effort to protect them from him. And the shady businesses he has managed to get himself involved in. Due to this, he favours the company of his Mistresses and his frenemy over those of his family. His loyalty is able to be bought and he believes other people operate like he does. Appearance Marcus stands at 5'7ft tall and has a stocky build. His limbs are covered with dark body hair with an occasional scar here and there from his line of work. His eyes are a grey-blue, framed by dark lashes and thick dark eyebrows. Despite frequent trips to the barber he usually ends up with 5 o'clock shadow on his top lip, chin and cheeks. His hair has salt and pepper but remains thick, the length depends on whether he has coin to improve his appearance. His skin is olive in tone and darkens rather than goes red in sunlight. Marcus' clothing is workmanlike. He doesn't mind if he happens to have blood or dirt on his clothing either. His two younger brothers were soon added into the mix with hard-working Titus and Publius both soon taking his father's eye. At seven, he began to help his father with labouring in order to try to help the family meet their high rental costs. He grew up largely illiterate although his able to recognise his own name. He would see the men in the gangs, the collegia and the respect they gained from their peers. His father always warned him to stay away from these men, show respect, and never get in their way. Marcus wanted to be like them. He wanted the respect that they carried, and the fear. TEENAGE TO EARLY ADULT [45 - 59AD]: In 45CE, he met his best friend (and frenemy) Calvunus, and together they began to have their dysfunctional relationship. The following years were spent getting involved in petty crime and aiming to rise through the ranks. Unfortunately, the pair of them were caught now giving the gang's cut and were lucky they were not killed or maimed. Instead they both became indebted to the Scars of Concord. However, in 52CE, the smaller gang was overtaken by the larger ones and either assimilated into the gang or the survivors fled. Despite the politics slowly trickling in, for the most part, they had no true impact on his life and instead he focused on trying to advance through the ranks with little success. Between 57 - 59CE, he was taking contract jobs from anyone who would hire him. These were mostly petty extortion, violence, and thieving. Nothing particularly of note, and no did he attack anyone of any particular importance during this time. During this time, he fathered Oriana Laecania in 51CE, although he was not aware of this at the time. ADULTHOOD [60- 73AD]: During the Civil war he kept a low profile. Taking low end jobs that did not place him in the view of any of the factions vying for power. In 61CE he married his wife and later, she gave birth to a daughter and in 63CE, gave birth to his son. While the pair of them remain married. He often spent his spare time in the company of his friends and prostitutes. The chaos gave an opportunity and sadly, his talents were not recognised during this time with the various gangs of Rome. However, he made several friends who he aims to develop further and has continued to take a variety of jobs over the years. In 71-72CE, recent times he has been rising through the ranks and has become an enforcer for the The Syndicate, and tries to take as many 'perks' of the job as he possibly can. 73CE --- Current time. 22. CW: Talk of miscarriages. Flavia Juliana 31| 15th February 43CE | Imperial | Matrona | Bi-curious | Canon | Vittoria Puccini <image here> Personality. Gone is the young woman who constantly sought out the approval of her Father. The terror of the purges brought out a strength in her, while she suffers from the trauma endured and struggles to remember the exact events. She learned that she is resilient, determined, and ultimately a survivor. Juliana at one time was unable to bond with her father, she and her sisters were a sign of his lack of an ability to produce a male heir. Finding each other in Africa was a blessing in disguise. The pair appreciated each other. All the petty worries of the past were forgotten when the Gods had decided to give them a second chance. Part of the aftereffects of the trauma she experienced has left her with recurrent nightmares, difficulties in large crowds, and there are times when she does not know whether what she experienced in Africa was real or if it was a dream. It is not something she speaks of to others. Instead considering herself fortunate to still be alive after the pain she has brought. She has committed murder, something she doesn't like but accepts there is always a possibility of having to do so again. Juliana idolises her previous political marriage to Decimus, and still retains a strong bond with both children she fled to Africa with. One could say she loved him more when he died than when he was alive. Her thoughts towards her Pater's best friend, Lucius and former husband remain friendly although they were neither close nor passionately in love. She was determined to remain a widow. Unfortunately the political nature of Rome needed she would be bartered in gratitude for the loyalty expressed during the conflict. Her previous husband Lucius had died and she wept for him. Not due to any love or affection, but another corpse of people she knew added to the pile. She maintains a friendship with all her surviving stepchildren. Again, her womb had cursed her with another stillborn child. With no issue being a regular occurrence throughout her marriages, her fears were confirmed and a friend recommended that she sacrifice to Juno. She did and was greeted with the news of a child. She gave birth to her first son and only son, much to the joy of both her and her husband Quintus. Later, two daughters followed. Her relationship with her mother remains strong. Her relationship with her stepmother is good. The relationship that improved the most is the one she has with her father. She understands Greek, Latin, and Aegyptian from a childhood friend. She feels incredible uncomfortable in the city. The memory of the purge still haunts her ten years later, which of them tore her sisters apart? Who rejoiced at their suffering? While she often comes to the city as she is obligated to do so, she prefers a quieter life outside Rome and loves the peace of her extensive gardens at her husband's villa. Appearance Juliana stands at 5'7ft tall. Her skin in pale from time she has avoided spending time in the son, her skin does have a few moles. Her hair is a dirty blonde, that she occasionally dyes with saffron to improve the colour of it. Since it is neither blonde nor brunette. Her body is slender, but the feminine curves and a thickness around her hips from pregnancy, and childbirth. She has large grey blue eyes. Her clothing style has changed little over the years. Juliana wears simple clothing made of fine fabrics at home. When she leaves the home her clothing is modest, a palla draped around her head and hair. The clothing she does wear tends to be of paler colours and it's always clean. A chiton is worn, along with a palla that is either draped around her shoulders or so that it covered her hair. Informal When she is around the home her clothing is simple, of fine quality and without the adornment of jewels. Her hair is often loose. A peplos of various colours is worn. Formal There are times when it calls for her to dress considerably better. She wears ornate hairstyles, with gold and jewels in her hear. Cosmetics to highlight her natural beauty and to lighten her already pale skin. A palla is draped around her dress, and occasionally the unflattering stola is worn over the top to depict her as being a married woman. Family Father: Jullus Flavius Alexander Mother: Laelia Serginilla Siblings: Full - Flavia Alexandra Major (deceased) - Flavia Alexandra Minor (deceased) Half Lucius Flavius Alexander Publius Flavius Alexander Cneaus Flavius Alexander Spouse: Quintus Caecina Tuscus Children: Stillborn (with Decimus) Quintus Caecina Tuscus Minor (all children below with Quintus Caecina Tusca) Caecina Tusca Minor Caecina Laelia Stepchildren (Decimus Junius Silanus) Lucius Junius Silanus Marcus Junius Silanus Stepchildren (Lucius Furius Bibaculus) Lucius Furius Bibaculus Minor [30 years, eldest son] Marcus Furius Bibaculus [24 years, younger son] Marcus Furius Bibaculus Minor [19 years, youngest son] Extended family. Flavi-Alexandrae clan Corneli-Scipii Numerous branches and connections of families associated with her own or those she married into. History Born in 43AD, Juliana was born to Jullus Flavius Alexander and to Laelia Serginilla. The first born daughter, healthy yet not the important son that was desired. She idolised her father as a distant figure who was constantly off fighting barbarians to protect Rome from the wicked barbarian. From an early age she wanted to be the best daughter she could for him, always wanting to do anything to please him and desired her approval. She never felt she received it from him, until much later when they near enough lost everyone and their world had been shattered. The next year was largely uneventful for her. In 45AD, her sister Flavia Alexandra Major was born. Juliana felt mixed emotions towards her little sister, already she had become jealous of her and could sense her father's disappointment in yet another female child. Although was still too young to understand why that was the case. The next few years are mostly uneventful other that her growing from a toddler to a young child. 48AD Her education begins. She begins to learn Greek and Latin, how to weave, how to manage household expenses and slaves, how to behave in polite society and always aims to please her distant father. None of her efforts or news of them seem to reach his approval. By chance Juliana met the girl who would become her best friend before they were parted in their later lives. Through her she learned how to speak Aegyptian although rarely has any opportunity to speak it in her current time. As child she remembered running to her father to tell him something, and being dismissed by him. She spends time with her mother's family, although especially loved looking at gardens with her grandmother, Annthea and that was something that helped her later in life. The next year is mostly uneventful for her. 50AD, her sister Flavia Alexandra Minor was born. Again, to the disappointment of her father and resulting in Juliana feeling pushed aside by her mother. Despite these feelings, Juliana wants to try to be a good elder sister to her younger sisters and unfortunately comes across to them as being overbearing. 51AD - 57AD Continues to grow from a girl to a young woman, yet does not begin to menstruate until much later and disappoints her father yet again. During this time she continues to grow and to boss around her younger siblings. During these years her mother shields her from hearing about politics and the dangers, instead she was devoted to teaching her daughters how to be proper Roman noblewomen and encouraged them to obey their father. 58 AD -- Father returns Rome. Juliana still craves his attention and approval, although does not find it and instead tries to show him that she is the best daughter she possibly could be. During the middle of the year she becomes eligible for marriage as blood begins to flow and it allows a marriage to be made. She dreams of marrying a handsome up and comer, someone she could grow with and become the best of friends. Where she could marry once instead of the series of marriages that many Roman noblewomen would go through throughout their lives. 59 AD -- Father divorces mother, Juliana remains at the family home and continues to send messages to her mother. Despite the lack of male issue and her mother understanding why. Juliana blamed herself and her sisters for the divorce. In March, the marriage to Lucius is arranged and preparations have been made for her to move to Britannia. She would rather stay in Rome with her family and what she believed was civilisation. The marriage was friendly and they were on relatively good terms. Although no passionate love nor children born to the pair of them. Her father's best friend would often treat her as the daughter of his best friend rather than his wife. Late 59 AD -- Meets Decimus Varius and begins to have an affair. The affair with Varius is passionate, intense and incredibly confusing for her. Amicable divorce with Lucius for political reasons, she continues to spend time with her stepchildren when she can see them and found herself becoming close to his eldest son. She remains in Britannia for a time. Early 60 AD -- Is threatened by the family to comply and behave through the use of a masked man. Juliana was unaware how they managed to discover how they found out and became quieter in all her dealings. Many of her journals from this period have been burned. At this time she believed her lover has been killed. Discovers that Decimus Varius is in fact alive and is forced to become more discreet. Later on, Decimus Varius is murdered with her having a hand in the murder. It was the last time she takes a male lover. Marries Decimus Junius Silanus for a political alliance between their two families. 60 AD - Father marries Caecila Metella, a young woman close to her age and she has conflicting feelings about it. Through letters her mother tells her not to worry and to be a good daughter to her father. Later in the year she is greeted with her first half-brother and again feels torn by the news. She discovers to her disappointment that she is still not yet pregnant. Sept 60 AD -- Death of her aunt, Lucilla Augusta and later on the Caesars are murdered. She finds herself worried about what will occur. Juliana fears the advancement of the British tribes, and increasingly grows worried about them. 60AD --- Birth of Lucius, her paternal half-brother who has been named in the honour of his aunt, Lucilla. 61AD --- Death of Decimus Junius Silanus by the hand of a treacherous slave, only to be killed later by Lucius Junius Silanus. The death of her husband in such a way causes her to bond more with his sons, idolise the man, and he gave her a parting gift. She was pregnant. They were to travel back to Rome but stopped in Gaul first, before she made her way back to what she believed was peace and safety. 62AD -- Is rescued by Mesalla, takes the sons of Decimus Junius Silanus, Marcus and Lucius with her in order to reach safety. Juliana was scared that she would not make it to the East to meet with her uncles and goes towards Africa instead to reach her father. She had been residing at the domus of her former husband, where she witnessed several members of the family pass away and feared for the safety of Junia Silana. A couple of faithful slaves of the family lead her to the docks. Suffers a miscarriage on the boat on the journey there, along with the death of the slaves on the boat and holds her stillborn male child. At first, she did not realise that he had passed away and would praise him for never crying. The perfect little soldier. When she arrives there she does not know whether she would be safe or not. She speaks to a woman and believes she spent time with her. Finally, she reached the safety of Pompeius Magnus who offers her safety, and gratefully accepts the offer. Out of kindness, he organises a funeral for Decimus Junius Silanus Postumus, and allows her and the children to remain with him for safety. Later on, she discovers that Caecilia, Lucius and Titus Minor survived. Although her two little sisters had been lost. At first, it took time before she was able to see each other and they held each other close during their reunion. It brought about a more positive relationship with her father and the pair have been closer than they were previously. Little incidents and problems no longer seemed to matter. 62/63AD -- Returns to Rome, and was originally wary about the boys returning home having become protective of them during their time in Africa. Once she realised that it was safe for them to return home. she did so, and both boys were frequent visits to the Domus Augustorum. For a long time she remains unmarried and wary about being back in Rome, she devotes her time to assisting members of her family with the changes they have experienced. Her villa and door is always open to the now numerous members of her family. 64AD --- Birth of Publius, her paternal half-brother. Publius' birth was marked with greater celebration for her rather than the jealousy she felt in the past. The improved relationship between her and her father is clear. 66AD -- Birth of Cneaus, her paternal half-brother. 66AD--- About midway through the year she marries Quintus Caecina Tuscus, a respected general of her uncle and one of his supporters. Initially she protests the union, wishing to remain as a widow and finally relents. The marriage to him is good with Tuscus fussing over his younger spouse. It does not take long before they are greeted by the news of pregnancy. 66AD--- Later in the year, Juliana gives birth to a stillborn child to Tuscus and is disappointed in her ability to conceive a child. She begins to feel as though she is now barren and is haunted by the memories of her previous miscarriage. Sinks into a depression, her husband bought her a kitten in an attempt to cheer her up and boost her spirits. A friend recommends a sacrifice to Juno. She regularly visits the temple in hopes of being able to conceive a much desired son. 67AD--- Her visits to the temple continue during the early parts of the year. Late in the year the birth of Quintus Caecina Tuscus Minor takes place. Since then Juliana has whole heartedly believed in the power of the goddess and has gained a wariness towards the foreign Gods and beliefs that have been trickling into Rome. She spends the majority of the time in her husband's villa north of Rome and resides here. The next two years she works on improving the villa and regularly writes to other members of her family. 69AD Juliana continues to work on the villa, spending time with her child and stepchildren, and donating funds to the temple of Juno. Essentially, living the quiet life away from Rome. 70 to mid-71AD--- Birth of twin girls, Caecina Tusca & Caecina Laelia. Takes time to heal from the birth and was warned about the danger of having more children. Given her belief that she was unable to conceive she has silently decide to use Silphium in order to prevent any further children being born. Her recovery takes a long time with Juliana choosing not to take part in public life until she has healed. late 71-72AD -- Juliana begins to socialise once more and begins to rejoin polite society in Rome. Spending time with her family, although never truly becomes a social butterfly and instead prefers the company of her close family members and her gardens to the many parties of Rome. 73- 4AD--- current time GOTHY | GMT+11 | PM or Discord
  23. Claudia Gaia 33 | 14th June 40CE | Imperial | Matron (also Corinthia's warden) | Bisexual | Original | Stephanie Leonidas Personality. Gaia, or Χρυσανθη (Chrysanthe) as she was originally known as was not born with malice in her heart. Deep down, she believes that there is good in everyone and if you're nice to people they will be kind to you. Despite how many times the events in her life have proven otherwise. Gaia enjoys the fruits of life, having developed a taste for them and enjoys surrounding herself with beautiful people, and things. She is sensual, a lover of music and can play both the harp and the flute. And has been known to have taken many lovers over the years. Some were a necessity, some were out of love, and others were completely out of pleasure. She is able to speak both Greek and Latin, along with being able to read and write in both. Gaia never developed the mind of a politician. Fortunately for her, she has no illusions about her intelligence levels and in modern terms would be considered a ditz. Gaia is not a skilled liar, often stumbling over her words and avoiding eye contact when she is being dishonest -- although she also does this when she is intimidated by something or someone. She is charitable, often going out of her way for her friends and fortunately her faithful body slave Nahia would often keep an eye on her. There is a loving, sisterly relationship between the two women with Nahia often instructing her Mistress to make the best choices. Gaia is a parent to her daughter, Corinthia. The daughter of the one time adopted heir to Claudius before the fates decreed that another should take the throne. Loving, protective, and unfortunately she completely spoilt her defiant child. Her daughter has a cruel, defiant, possessive and domineering personality. The opposite of her kind-natured mother. She believes most of her family to be dead. Generally she does not think of them or the bloody fates they had. She lost her first and most beloved husband, Manius Claudius Caesar or Manius Acilius Glabrio Leontius as he was known before he was adopted. While the man had a vindictive and grasping nature, he was always kind and considerate towards Gaia. Spoiling her and eventually taking her as his wife before he was slain for murdering Claudius. Gaia to this day believes he is innocent -- well, mostly. She has taken many lovers in the past and was known for her enjoyment of it. While there were many friendships formed, none of them resulted in either marriage or a relationship. Many of her betrothals have ended up with the death of her fiance's before the date and she has begun to wonder whether she is cursed with bad luck. Ultimately Gaia wishes for her daughter to be happy and safe. Deep down there is a suspicion about her daughter's true nature. An actual confirmation of her sweet daughter being a monster would be her greatest fear come to life. Another fear is the complete destruction of Rome although far-fetched. Although another would be to become enslaved once more. Appearance Gaia stands at 5ft tall. She has a slender frame with average muscle tone, her body has womanly curves on the smaller side and her skin is olive in colour, although darker in the areas that have been exposed to sunlight. She frequently has a relaxed and casual posture, and has been known to slouch when she sits down. Her face is round, her eyes are large, dark and expressive. Her eyes are framed by thick, dark eyelashes. Over the years the sunlight has given her the earlier signs of crows feet that will deepen over time. Around her lips are the lines that will slowly turn into smile lines as she gets older. Gaia's teeth are slightly off-white. Her hair is naturally curly, often flowing down her back and is a light brunette in colour. Informal/around the home. A simple peplos of varying colour, although they are typically white. A palla may be draped around her head or shoulders if the weather is colder than usual. The linen is always high quality. Formal occasions. She often doesn't wear the stola, the symbol of married and respectable matrons of Rome. A fascia around her breasts beneath, her clothing varies; yet she often wears blues, expensive white fabrics, pinks and matches her jewelry to what she's wearing. On her feet she wears sandals made out of soft leather, decorated with jewels. She was born into a family of farmers, well off yet still farmers. She was mostly illiterate, working hard to bake bread and otherwise be obedient. Her betrothed was selected to be a cousin of hers, mainly so there would be no loss of money within the family and so they could be sure that she would marry a good man. Chrysanthe was mostly oblivious to the world around her. Her world was her friends, family, and the village they resided in. One thing she did know was that money began to become harder to come by in 52CE with the rising taxation. In 53CE, her brothers joined the rebellion against Rome and this was unknown to her parents. When the civil war came to Greece and the retribution was swift and decisive. Her parents were slain in the conflict with her brothers taken into slavery. Many of the women were taken as war booty, however, her beauty was noticed by Manius Rutilius Cyprianus. An ambitious man who wished to offer a gift to the Imperial family. She was given to Manius' (her husband to be) sister, Archaita. In turn, she was given to her son as a plaything and a genuine love formed between the pair of them. Manius taught her how to read, play the harp and the flute, and showed her a world that she never knew existed. He gave her the name she would now go by. Gaia. The name Chrysanthe now long forgotten. Faithfully, she followed him wherever he went during the course of his travels, and worried for his fate should the worst ultimately occur. Still, she was happy. Manius broke with convention and married her. Already casting a dark light on Manius' political career and reducing his favour among the members of the nobility. In <>, her mother-in-law, Archaita, passed away and Gaia did not find herself missing her. Birth of Corinthia occurred in 55CE and early on it was easy to see that the child inherited her mother's beauty -- yet her father's ambitious mind. She spoiled the child, and after the loss of Manius, she spoiled her even more and ignored the warning signs about her daughter's personality. In 56CE, Manius, the love of her life died, and she mourned and wept for him. He was given a proper funeral to honour his status and his life. In 57CE, she becomes increasingly aware that she needs to maintain favour with the Imperial family and reaches out to them. They are friendly and considerate of her, despite her former status, and she is relieved. In 60CE Lucilla passed away only to be followed by Junus and Honorius later on. She reached out to try to help although there was not much she could do. She stayed in Rome as long as possible before she felt it got too dangerous. She fled with Corinthia to Greece, and stayed quiet. Perfectly happy for Corinthia to forget who she was in order to keep her safe. She heard the news of the dictatorship and the uncertainty involving the Imperial twins, and the fate of Rufia Flavia. All she could do was remain in safety in Greece -- unfortunately, she was unable to reach them to help them without drawing attention to herself. Something she has long regretted not being able to do. Many years after the fact, she has heard word from Honorius as he travels by a different name and unfortunately, no word came of it and she began to worry. Quintus became Caesar in 63CE and with it brought peace and prosperity to Rome. When she was sure it was safe, she returned to Rome with Corinthia along with the family's most trusted slaves. Her slave Nahia was officially freed and remained in her household as both a friend and patron. Over the years, there has been considerable happiness and a bright future for them. Over the years, offers of marriage began to trickle in although unfortunately all the men seemed to go missing. Her life has been most uneventful, her amorous behaviour has slowed down now she has begun to feel more secure in her place in Rome, and wanted to remain free from connections. Her marriage had brought her money, security, and relative freedom. Something she was unwilling to compromise for anyone. Her years were mostly uneventful although she has connected herself to the current Augusta in friendship. Perhaps Gaia is more politically ware than people would first assume? In the current time, Gaia is seeking out a husband for Corinthia (and possibly for herself) and hopes that there is a bright future for them both. Gothy | GMT +11 | DM or PM
  24. Alaric Aetius Stilicho. 54 | 19th July 21CE | Equite| Praefectus Annonae | Heterosexual| Original | Kevin McKidd Personality. A man who both fought for and against the might of Rome. Alaric was once a Germanic Prince who fought against Rome. At one point; he was fiery, passionate, determined and wholeheartedly believed the Gods had chosen him to lead his people. In a fever dream from one of the rites, he had been told that he would sack Rome itself along with his brothers and lead his tribe to glory. He was reckless, ignoring the signs of what was and focused instead of what could have been. However, the Gods had different plans for him. When he was captured by Cneaus Flavius Alexander Germanicus and his world completely changed. Originally he was going to be sacrificed within the arena in a spectacle that would demonstrate the power of Rome. However, he discovered he had a daughter and she was brought to Rome. His actions would also determine her fate. He had heard whispers of the fate of his wife and knew the Roman way. An offer was given to him where he was given the chance to become Romanised. If he behaved, he would be able to see his daughter who he believed was his last kin and essentially gave up his pride to preserve her life. Now Alaric is reserved, only opening up once he knows someone well or he's been drinking. His knowledge of Latin has improved over the years to a part where he is fluent in the language, however, his accent remains and is noticeable. On occasion he will break into his native language although only when he is enraged or jovial and in good company. Alaric over the years has come to see Romans as his family, having married into Equite families and even befriending some of the men he had formerly fought against. While the man is cold killer on the battlefield, he is a warm father and honours the role he has. Alaric has a history of making friends with the most unlikely of men. Renius and Honorius, a men who he had fought against. Yet there was a distinct mark of respect between them. Now Marcus, his son-in-law, is one of his closest friends in Rome. Alaric is quiet, in private reserving his name for friends, family and close acquaintances and reserving his Roman name for people outside his family. However, once he is among his loved ones, he becomes incredibly chatty and will often makes a lot of cheesy jokes. He is generous, happy, and becomes brighter. He is able to handle a decent amount of drink well, and encourages others to do so. On occasion, he tells tall tales and sings during this time. He has ambition and joy in the growth of his family, with each of them considering themselves now to be fully Roman and not looking towards their father's past. He is protective of them, fearing for their safety in the fickle world of Rome and worries for their security. Alaric has recently heard of his own distant family members from his Germanic family and during his tour, he was fortunate to not have to face any of them. He fears meeting them face to face and realising that could have been. And finding out who he had lost when he begun his journey in becoming Roman. Appearance Alaric stands at 5'10ft tall. He has spent time keeping himself physically fit for battle, and often rides horses when he's outside the city itself. Alaric is often clean shaven and his copper coloured curls cropped short. Any body hair on his body is a similar colour as his head, his skin tends to remain paler than many of the native people in Rome and slowly his skin has become beige from his time in sunlight. Slowly as he's aged the copper has become specked with silver pepper, Military. The clothing typically worn by the Roman officer class. The red cloak of a soldier, a garment he had once despised with every core of his being is frequently seen around his shoulders. Nothing is particularly fancy, but everything is well-maintained and has been made to last as long as possible. At home. At home he wears a tunica and sandals during the warmer months of the year. While during the winter, he wears breeches beneath the tunica in order to keep the cold out. Official dealings. He wears the traditional tunica angusticlavia beneath a toga. Something he isn't exactly comfortable in. Marcus Aelius Lentulus Major Aelia Lentula Adoptive father/brother-in-law: Fluvius Aetius Stilicho, 30s-40s, Deceased Marcus Aelius Lentulus - son-in-law History Alaric was born in the winter of 21CE in Germania, outside of Rome's borders to Queen Higrata and her husband, King Wulfstan. On the morning of his birth the sooth-sayers prophesied that he would bring bloodshed to their enemies, specifically Rome. Sacrifices were made in honour of their son. As he grew from a toddler to a boy, he learned how fight with weaponry in order to fulfill the prophecy and was raised to believe it was true. At this time the young man had not developed a sense of control. He was tall for his age, physically strong in battle, and with a fiery temperament. He fought with his parents against other rival tribes in order to expand the tribe's interests, or to bring them under the command of his father. Alaric's fate was finally sealed when another sooth-sayer appeared. This one was from another tribe and told him that she had a message from the Gods for him. With smoke, blood, fire and water they had begun the rites to begin the rhythmic chanting. She warned him of the past, the future, of women, of his own nature, and in the smokey haze she warned him that he would be known although he would forget his roots. "You will fight them, You will then call them brother, You will cut them, They will cut you, You will either consume them or they will turn you into them, Any revenge they want to take on you, they will take on your child. Victory! Alaric son of Wulfstan! Or you will suffer....." He did not believe her, and nor did he remember the fact until many years into the future. Alaric had been told. A foreshadowing of red, of chains, his blood would mingle with the foe. His mind would serve them rather than his heart. Over the following years that passed the threat of the prophecy slowly faded away from his mind. His mind was filled with the torment from his past. In 32-33CE, there were skirmishes with rival clans and tribes, bringing them under the confederation, and his mother gave birth to his brother and then in early 33AD, his sister, Argathe was born. 34- 38CE-- He spent the majority of his time developing skills and acting as a representative to the other neighbouring tribes. 39 - 41CE-- He met a young woman who is similar to him in appearance and temperament. He married Getrude. Battles neighbouring tribes for dominance and to further develop skill. It brings smaller tribes into the loose confederation and rule. Throughout this time be begins to raid into Roman territory. (Later in, 41CE) The fire and bravado filled him, consumed him. He screamed in fury as he tried to charge the Legate, to kill him would demoralise the remaining Romans and soon the men who followed him fell around him. The echo of their screams filled his ears, as they were slowly cut away and he was no longer able to see them. In his haze, he felt hands grab him and pull him down. Parts of his chest began to feel as though cold suddenly with hotter liquid spilling downwards, then another on his leg and the same hot liquid sensation. Although soon it passed into a dreamless sleep. He saw bloody images, shadows of both his own people and Romans, his parents spoke to him before they disappeared into the mist... gone forever..... gone. When he awoke he was chained up. He pulled on his chains and roared in his tongue to the gathered Romans. This was not what the Gods had promised him. "You will either consume them or they will turn you into them." Capture by the Roman Legate, Cneaus Flavius Alexander Germanicus in Rome's revenge, has his parents killed and his daughter is taken alive. Brought to Rome in chains. Weakened from the time enslaved, he had lost considerable muscle mass over the time and begins to question the Gods. Why did they let him fail? Was he not supposed to be bring terror to the Romans? Instead he was brought to Rome as a prisoner. (Late 41CE) Brought to Rome in chains, paraded through the streets of Rome as a captive and set to die in the arena. During the Triumph, he prayed to his Gods for protection and knew he would die. He wanted to die. 42CE-- Discovers Barbara still lives and is both terrified and overjoyed. He does not know what they intend to do with her, and becomes frightened by the prospect of what they would do to her. Would they kill her? Enslave her? Brutalise her? The thoughts run through his mind, plaguing him and forcing his spirit to recede. He is allowed supervised visits with Barbara. Always watched, with no privacy with his daughter and the thoughts of ending her life fills his mind. What if the Romans decided that they had grown bored with this prank? "Any revenge they want to take on you, they will take on your child." 43 - 45CE-- During these years he feels as though he is still in a sort of limbo. He learns from Romans who he has befriended more about the culture he is gradually forcefully being assimilated into. Whenever he manages during the rare times to see men of his tribe for news of his family. There is none. At this point, he plans to kill Caesar and the goal is not due to hatred of the man, but who he is as a symbol to the Romans. 46CE-- First Roman marriage to Aemilia Decima. While it unofficially Romanised him, the girl was young and her mind was not what it should have been. For many years he saw himself as her protector, trying to keep her safe both from him and from her families ambition. He is permitted to move into a Domus that he never truly considered his home, occasionally being able to see Barbara and still felt like he was in limbo with a sword hanging over his neck. He is confused about how he is beginning to see the other side of Romans. Mercy, friendship, and are showing themselves to be other than the decadent tyrants he was raised to believe they were. 47 - 49CE-- He began to learn Latin but never lost his distinctive accent. Over time he still feels stuck in an endless limbo and insecurity. During this time, he dreams of striking out against the 50CE--Aemilia Decima dies in childbirth and results in a stillborn son. It left him feeling desolate and he blamed himself for her death. While he was approached with marriage offers, he avoided them and found himself sinking into a depression over the loss. While he did not love her, he cared for her and the guilt resulted in nightmares, especially those of the past. 51-54CE Alaric is adopted into the Aetii-Stilichii clan by Fluvius Aetius Stilicho and marries Aetia Gala in 55CE. Barbara is permitted to come to live with them. He grows to love the chaotic family, and slowly his body and mind begins to heal. Something he finds himself 57CE Goes to Britannia as Primus Pilus, and serves honourably. Death of Fluvius & Gala (along with many of their other family members), becomes Paterfamilias of the Aetii-Stilichii clan. It takes him time to admit to the idea, although takes the role seriously and tries to maintain the family name and honour. Attends the Imperial banquet and feels incredibly out of place. Memories of his past goals fill him and he found himself unable to act when the young Caesar greets him. Has a moment to meet with the young Darius Caesar, yet does not know him particularly well. When Darius faints he fears the worst for Rome and the new home. 58CE, A fairly ordinary year for him. He speaks for Renius and defends him when rumours of his affair reach Rome. In 59CE marriage to Suetonia, a cousin of Renius' and her son Publius comes to live with them. He arranges a betrothal between Barbara and Publius, although avoids making the marriage official. Publius is a good boy and he thinks of him as a son. Although the memories of his daughter and the struggle in order to get her back was difficult, something he never wishes to endure ever again. He defends his friend Renius during his trial and is largely ignored. He promises to care for Publius and finds himself missing his friend a great deal. 60CE The birth of Alaricus Aetius Stilicho Minor fills him with boundless joy. A son. Unfortunately, this news is greeted with sadness as the death of Suetonia from complications in childbirth and mourns the passing of his spouse. Later on the news of Publius' death reaches them, giving the family more reason to mourn and the uncertainly of the future makes him more determined to protect his children. The years that followed where the upstart, Clemens, marries Rufia Flavia, he tries to find a way to protect both his family and offer her any assistance that he could possibly give. -- During (60-64CE) his daughter Barbara serves as the matron of the house, dealing with household matters and the general running of the place. In 66CE, the birth of his first grandson, Marcus Aetius Lentulus Minor, took place and left him a proud grandfather. He admired Seia for her determination to clear her ex husband's name, even against overwhelming odds and soon their friendship turns romantic. He marries her in 67CE and he feels himself blessed by the Gods. Later that year, Aetia Stilicha is born. It is the beginning of their happy life together. The following years were filled with happiness, prosperity, and slowly he has begun to become used to the comfort of his declining years. In 71CE he becomes the Praefectus Annonae and takes his occupation seriously. While he misses being in the military life, he pours himself into being a family man and into his occupation. In 72CE, the birth of his younger son, Titus Aetius Stilicho takes place and is the latest addition to their growing family. The year of 73CE was a peaceful and happy one. He maintained his friendships with many of the men who he used to work with, and tries to help new people who come to Rome settle in. Alaric has kept his family safe and secure in the new regime. Hoping to set a good example for them to live by. Again, he is the Praefectus Annonae Current time. Gothy | GMT+11 | PM or Discord.
  25. Claudia Corinthia 19 | 1st February 55CE | Imperial | Occupation | Bisexual | Original | Anna Valle Personality. Corinthia lives in a near constant state of agitation at her position in the world. She is angry at her father for failing, and her mother for her amorous pursuits and not being ambitious for herself. She has all her mother's beauty (although harsher) and her father's mind. Her positive traits are that she sets goals and follows through with them. While Corinthia may have sociopathic tendencies; she is blessed with a keen intellect and knows when she is able to strike. Even though this slowly builds up her anger for later on. Corinthia was able to read and write quickly. In Greek and Latin. Due to her time in Greece, she has been able to perfect a Greek accent to use among her peers if she so wishes. Corinthia is able to read people's body language incredibly well, and is able to mimic caring or compassionate behaviour if she knows it will get her what she wants. Her negative ones are numerous. In private, Corinthia has been known to rage and scream. Many a vase has been thrown and a servant hurt by her wiles. Emotionally (and physically) hurt her mother. She is haughty, selfish, and with a bloated sense of entitlement and worth. She is sadistic, not for the purpose of bringing people under heel politically. She enjoys the suffering of others -- although it has stemmed from a desire to keep herself safe. If she is the attacker, surely that means she cannot be attacked. (Note; this is ridiculous. But this is how she thinks.) Due to her mother's promiscuity, she has developed a warped sense of sexuality and sex. Still a virgin. She enjoys watching, however has no desire for the act itself. Flirtation and the lure of sexuality? Corinthia utterly adores. Despite this, there is a feeling of isolation for Corinthia and at times, she aches to have the bonds other people seem capable of having for themselves. People around her are possessions, especially her mother and also has a respect for her mother's freedwoman, Nahia. Any child she had would be a pawn, possession, and would be used to further her own ends. Appearance Corinthia's face is longer and leaner than her mother's. Her skin is a deep olive in tone, her brunette hair that curls naturally is thick and luxurious. Corinthia has a long aquiline nose, a trait she inherited from her father and unlike her mother, she rarely, if ever, smiles. She wears cosmetics to highlight her facial features, eyeliner to increase the size and beauty of her eyes. Her build is long and lean. Closer to a dancer's body with long, slender legs and high arched feet, with long fingers. Her body is slender, lacking the curves that many other women enjoy, and is admittedly envious of them for it. Her breasts are on the smaller side and are pert. Corinthia is tall for a Roman woman, and stands at 5'8ft tall, and tends to look taller due to the length of her body. Her clothing is expensive, fashionable and takes pride in making herself look exotic. Family Father: Manius Acilius Glabrio Leontius (Manius Claudius Caesar) Mother: Claudia Gaia Siblings: None. Spouse: None. Children: None. Extended family. Gaius Claudus Caesar (deceased). Androcles, 34, currently in slavery, location unknown. OTHER: Nahia, her mother's freedwoman. History Corinthia was born in a nest of intrigue. Her mother had recently been freed, married, and acknowledged as the unlikely wife of Claudius, his kinsman by blood and presumed heir. After the death of Claudius' son, and adoption of Flavia Lucilla's sons. Born after her father had been put on trial for poisoning Claudius Caesar and later acquitted. Her mother doted on her endlessly. Spoiled the young child with anything she wanted. In 56-59CE, her father died and a funerary mask had been made. At this point she did not recognise him nor did she begin to realise the significance of this. Over the years, she met with the members of her extended family (the Claudians) and found them to be friendly towards her but snobby towards her mother. At this time, she did not understand nor comprehend why. Already there were signs of her early personality. A lack of empathy towards others. Selfishness. Although her doting mother would make excuses for her rather than teaching her. Fortunately (or unfortunately), Nahia, then her mother's devoted body slave ensured Corinthia behaved and was accountable for her actions. What this caused was for Corinthia to become more discreet. Her mother becomes engaged to Spurius Herminus Aquillius in 59CE. He was pretty, young, and useless in Corinthia's eyes. While Spurius favoured men, it was still someone who took her mother away from her, and that would not do. It would never do. She took it on her to be nice to him. Cuddle up to him, talk to him, smile sweetly at him, and it was not long before those around her began to suspect her. He died of poisoned wine. Corinthia knew she was suspected. 60 - 61CE -- Rather than fight or stake her own claims, her mother flees to Greece after the death of the Imperials. She was not sure what was happening, but saw the fear and panic in her mother's voice. Unable to understand the danger they were in until later. Fortunately it kept them out of harms way or being forced or coerced into marriage with those who wished to use the family name and connection for their own ends. Over the next few years she continued to grow into a little girl. Always kept under a watchful eye in case she got too rough with her playmates or animals. Gaia doted on her daughter, spoiling her and being able to give her anything she desired. In 66CE, at eleven years old she was re-introduced to the court life. She found herself not gaining the same level of attention nor affection from her family. This time she heard more about what happened, and who her mother was. Gaia had a reputation as a dimwit, good natured, and a slut with open legs. Her father? Was the original heir of Claudius and was hoodwinked out of it. She was denied the position that she properly desired. A certain male member of the family that was connected to the Claudians tried to bring her mother under heel. Her dimwitted mother submitted to Caesar's authority, and Corinthia's threats to avoid him. 67 -- Nothing of particular note happened this year for her. 68 -- 72CE-- In 68Ce, at thirteen, her body grows and matures into a beautiful young woman. Her mother is delighted by the prospect of her daughter marrying and having a little grandbaby. Around this time another couple of suitors begin to appear around her mother. Slowly and surely they disappear, either coming up with polite excuses or even disappearing altogether. She continues to grow, yet as she blossom so does her resentment towards those who have what she believes belongs to her. No-one else. Over the years she terrorises her mother and the household staff, desiring to inflict as much pain as possible on everyone. However now there is an increased pressure for her to marry well, have children, and find her role within society. Even requests for her mother's hand continue to come in, after all, wealth remained an important part of life. No-one will take what belongs to her. In the current time, Corinthia is currently in the search of a husband who can give her power and position within society. GOTHIC | GMT+11 | PM or DISCORD
