  14. Corinthia had to rethink her plan. It was true, and made perfect sense as to why he would wish to remain dry and presentable. A job with her mother would have been an excellent deal, especially since she treated her workers like family. What absolute nonsense. There were a reason why they were servants. What happened if a servant thought her mother was soft due to Gaia's own position in the past? Something Corinthia purposely chose not to think about. She could not be kind and expect to be treated the same way. He seemed like a compassionate sort. A perfect way to use it to her advantage, she swiftly hid the smirk that threatened to appear and loosened one of the expensive rings on her fingers. When he looked elsewhere she flicked it into the water with a loud plopping sound. "Gods! Noo!" She shrieked and pointed to the water. "My ring! No! It was a gift from my late father!" Corinthia exclaimed, her eyes panicked as she peered into the water and she could not find it. It was not untrue. The ring was a gift from her late father when she was a babe. Although it was not the only gift that he had to given to his child. "Lexus! Could you help me?" She asked. Finally getting his name correct.
  15. She raised an eyebrow at his impudence about her not knowing his name. Corinthia certainly knew it. She was going to reply hotly, although managed, "I suggest you be polite about encouraging members of the nobility to learn your name," Corinthia responded. Yet... there was a reason for her fake friendliness, and the ultimate goal was more important to her than a momentary jab at him. Yet.. he may not have realised the insult she had been giving him. Corinthia listened to him when he answered her. He did not smell as bad as she imagined when he approached her. Perhaps he had not of heard of the lampreys? She smiled, "So, you have not learned how to clean ponds of the aristocracy?" She asked, a hint of the task she had in store for him. In truth, this little Lexus as her mother called him was not as bad as she first thought. He slipped a little, otherwise he was perfectly fine and it made her wonder more about him. Why did he suddenly find his way to her mother's home? Sure, Gaia was known to bring strays and people into her home when she felt they needed one. She had not yet forgotten the time she was nearly assassinated at the Circus Maximus. There could have been other reasons. As her thoughts raced, her facial expressions began to briefly darken, and she brought it back to a friendly, cordial smile. "Perhaps you could demonstrate your skills?"
  16. Corinthia was not particularly listening to him when spoke about it being their mother's decision. She still hated how much control her dim-witted mother had over her life. She gave him a condescending smile then gave a snort of laughter at his comment about his name. "Oh no, it is a lovely name." She blatantly lied. Although surely she would clearly remember a name of someone she valued. Corinthia's hands moved him closer to the pond, she smiled and leaned close towards him. "Do you see the different kinds of fish in the water?" She asked, smiled and reached out with her hand, wiggled her fingertips and her reflection mimicked her as she did so. The rings on her fingers jingled against each other. This pond had the prettier fish, the harmless ones who would easily take food from your hand -- the other pond had the eels. They were always hungry. Not that Gaia knew about the latter, they were her addition and one she was secretly quite proud of. "Do you like them?" Corinthia asked. It was strange, while she originally wanted to pick on him he was friendly and respectful. Maybe it would not be so bad to have him work for her mother after all?
  17. Her mother would have no doubt worried for him. Corinthia had no concerns for his welfare when it came to working. That was what his class were for. She wrinkled her nose when he said that he needed a drink. Why were the lower classes so lazy? Not that she had truly worked a day in her life, something she would never, ever have admitted. "Ah, so you will be here more often?" She asked, at least they were here to work rather than be a charity case. Corinthia led him through the home and into the extensive gardens of the villa. There was a larger pond, filled with lily pads and aquatic plant life. Underneath the surface of the water there was movement from the various kinds of fish that resided in the water. "I wonder how many parties she will be having here," She murmured quietly to herself. The pair of them looked over the body of water. No doubt he would be instructed to do the easier chores around the home. Corinthia smiled, she had yet to meet the mother and see what kind of a person she would be. Perhaps she was speaking with Gaia right at this moment? Either way, it would be a good idea for Lexus to learn what his new duties would be in the home. "Do you like the pond? Luc-oh pardon, Lexus?"
  18. Corinthia listened when he explained his name. Lexus, the name of a former gladiator and quirked an eyebrow. It should be obvious who she was. Slowly she exhaled at his tedious question yet was not persuaded from her goal. "I most certainly am," She answered, and one day, there would be no doubt about who she was. Everyone would know her name. Her memory would exist for a thousand years. "Yes... it would be an honour for you, wouldn't it?" She asked, a hint of condescension in her tone. Corin thia had only begun to visit the various villas and homes of the elite. Slowly but surely, envy began to creep up and she realised that her mother's villa was not as grand as it should have been. Someday.. the villa she would live in would be the grandest by far. She had no idea how long her mother wished to have her charity cases here, it was common for her to keep any strays she encountered -- and naturally, they were not staff nor did they offer coin for the privilege! Her thoughts continued on and she sighed, lifted her arm off the shoulder. Casually she draped it around his shoulder in a friendly manner, she took a step and implied she wished for him to walk with her. "It must be a treat for you to be here. Tell me, how did you meet my mother?" She asked, gave him a slightly strained smile and her nose remained wrinkled in distaste.
  19. Corinthia had wondered whether her mother's sanity had finally left her. Once more the pair of charity cases had not come on the correct day. During the day she walked around and saw the youth standing near the statue of one of her paternal relatives. Her mother's ancestry were lost to time and completely beneath her notice. She stood and raised a dark brow at the sight of him. At least he had some manners. She smiled although it did not quite reach her eyes, she walked towards him and stood a respectable distance away. If her mother would have charity cases. Why couldn't she? "Luccus? Le-ah, you must be Lexus," She said, her hand reached out to rest on the top of the statue. Her long fingers tapped against his facial features as she continued to watch him. Her gesture would have sparked offense if he had of done it himself. Lexus, she had vague memories of the man who had shared her mother's bed more than once. Something that she could not blame the elder for, however, his son was a suitable candidate. Corinthia was garbed in a white chiton with the edges trimmed in golden thread. Her complexion highlighted by the contrast. A serpentine bracelet was around one wrist that went up to her elbow with ruby eyes. Her dark was curled, semi-loose and not in the elaborate styles worn by women. "And how are you finding the villa?" She asked. It was time to see what he was like --- and how much trouble she would get him in.

Corinthia nodded. What was there to say to someone like him? Firstly, why was she so interested in him? Why did he haunt her dreams and all she could think about were the tattooes. And those piercing blue eyes she could never forget. She frowned briefly when he lowered himself down yet it was a respectful gesture, one he took it on himself to do rather than be commanded to do so. They were now eye level. Although she took the liberty of a glance downwards to observe the areas exposed. The short tunica did not leave much to the imagination, his pale skin had hair on it and she was torn with her desire in regards to it. Corinthia was torn when she regarded the scars. On one hand, it was quite soliderly and masculine... on the other, it humanised him. When he insisted on what she wanted, for a moment, she was caught daydreaming as she gazed at him. Slowly, his words began to drag her out of her daydream. His insistance caused her to frown, her eyebrows narrowed towards him and she did not appreciate being prompted. "Manners, slave," She near growled at him. Corinthia had heard of many of the slaves who spoke plainly to their Masters, and found it utterly disgusting. She was tempted to have him sent back to the Ludus or otherwise forced to do some other unappealing chore. Curiousity got the better of her. "Tell me about the land of your birth," She said, lifted her goblet and sipped the contents. Naturally, she did not offer him any. Corinthia gestured for him to sit with her hand, a sign that this would be a long and drawn out conversation between them. It did not matter to her that this would end up stirring memories of home, or if it upset him. All she cared about was being able to gaze into those eyes of his. Britannia, it had not been completely conquered yet although had been colonised for sometime now. "What tribe were you from? What was your former name, Aeneas?" She asked him. Making a point to mention it was his old name. Aeneas.

Corinthia regarded him steadily. The corners of her lips twitched with approval for his response. It was a sign that his training had been working, and he seemed to be doing better than before. It was not perfect but at least they were able to converse with each other. Was there anything he had to say that would be valuable? Interesting? Or was it as useful as teaching a dog how to speak? "A little? Good. Now you understand me," She answered, her lips curled up wards and highlighted eyes regarded him. Her fingertips tapped idly. There had been so many questions she wanted to ask him, yet now, none were coming to mind. All she could do was gaze into those blue eyes of his, and imagine what sort of a man he had been before. Corinthia believed he likely lived in some filthy hovel. Hell, she believed that he had been done a favour being brought to Rome and had the chance to train as a gladiator. A chance to die with honour. Her long fingered hand lifted and beckoned him to approach her. A closer look could not hurt. Corinthia did not move from her seated position, her lamb-hide sandals were decorated with semi-precious stones. Her feet had been pedicured, without callous and were another sign of the wealth she had. Her body hair was either plucked or waxed off. She was not some hairy barbarian, after all. Her hands were graceful, the hardest thing she grasped was a quill when she wrote and her fingernails were well-shaped. All signs of a well-bred and wealthy woman of Rome. Naturally, her eyelashes were dark and thick and only highlighted by the kohl that surrounded them. The hand moved to brush a stray, dark curl from her eyes and allowed her to observe him more clearly. "Do you know why you were brought to me, Aeneas?" She asked. His name the fiction founder of Rome. Corinthia hoped it would assist him in realisation that he would never see his home again. Those years were now lost to him and his future was now focused on doing his duty to please her. All he had to worry about was pleasing her, and ensuring her safety.

She kept thinking about him. There was something about his pale eyes that he could not forget. They had haunted her in her sleep, something she never thought they would be able to do. What was it about him that drew her to him? He was a savage! At night she imagined her legs wrapped around his waist, gripping him tightly and running her nails along those foreign, blue markings along his arms and shoulders. For a moment, her thoughts wandered down this line again and she remembered where she was. Her body jerked as she heard footsteps. Corinthia scowled to herself. She was not her mother. If she was not careful she would end up becoming like her and then it would limit her prospects. She needed to stay focused on her goals... only those mattered. She remained seated, half-reclined and relaxed. How trained would he be now? The redheaded Barbus did not think much of the younger Domina, yet it was not his place to have an opinion or thoughts. Aeneas had been cleaned, dressed in a tunic and still, Barbus was not willing to completely take his eyes of him. Corinthia may be a monster yet Gaia was not. She would be heartbroken if anything happened to her harpy of a daughter. Barbus had no ill will towards Aeneas himself. He remembered what it was like. "Come," He said, gestured with his hand for Aeneas to follow him and led him towards his Domina. Barbus waited until Aeneas was three metres away from her. Tapped his hand on his shoulder, "That is close enough," He said, and moved to silently wait nearby if he was needed for anything. Corinthia watched as Aeneas entered. She felt her heart flutter with beats, a light breathlessness and her hand was gently placed on her chest. He looked much more respectable now from the filth, his skin had freckles yes, but much more colour to his skin. No longer did he resemble a walking corpse. And those eyes, they had lost none of their colour and she kept her dark eyes on him. At first she said nothing. The goblet was lowered to rest on her knee as she regarded him. He was so incredibly handsome. Why was she so curious about him? Her long fingernails idly tapped on the surface of the goblet, idly and she had to wonder how much Latin he had picked up during his time at the Ludus. "Now Aeneas, how well do you know Latin?" She asked. For the moment, she ignored her thoughts about why she wanted to know all about him and the life he had previously led in Britannia.

April 73CE. It had been some time since she had seen Aeneas. Since then, she wondered how he had been going with his training and how he had been. Gaia had visited him every so often. Checking on him, trying to help him adjust, and Corinthia wondered if her mother would ever see any type of reason. A slave would adjust or they would be removed. Yet... every night she could see those eyes haunting her and would awaken in a panic. Sweating, her chest pounding, her mind filled with confusing thoughts and images, and wondered what it all meant. Was this a cruel trick of some foreign God? Perhaps a hex to cause her to lose her wits? She commanded that he be sent for, bathed, and presented to her. Corinthia was interested to see how he had progressed, and secretly, there had been another reason why she wished to see him. Her mother would occasionally prattle on about how being considerate to your slave would be a benefit. Corinthia would pointedly ignore her. She left the household slaves and guards to bring him in while she remained in her bedroom. How would it go? Would he be more man or beast by now? By midday the slave would be presented to her in the atrium. Corinthia however, did not hide publicly for Aeneas to arrive at the atrium, and instead waited in her room. Occasionally her hand would be placed on her heart in order to try to stop it from beating eagerly in anticipation. She wondered how he would look now with better food, time to settle, and if he now was able to speak Latin rather than the mongrel tongue he already spoke. She sipped her wine and waited for news from one of the household slaves that he was ready to be presented to her.

    New Arrivals

She had been so excited by the news of the latest arrival to the family. Livia's children she had mixed feelings about, she loved them yet utterly despised their boar of a father. It was joyous for Flavia to have more children of her own, she deserved all the happiness in the world and Claudia made a mental note to see her more. Family was one of the happiest things in the world. Tiberius had rushed ahead, no doubt, other members of the family would likely be in attendance later on. There would be a day when she would have children of her own. Yet she would share in the joy. In her arms she carried mulled, sweetened wine, fragrant flowers, and other gifts for the expectant children. In truth, when it came to younger children and infants. She felt like a fish out of water. Claudia saw Tiberius as he stood at the door, she quickened her pace and joined him just in time when he asked if they could join them. She giggled at him, nudged him with her hip and happily walked into the room. In the same bold way she did when she was a child. "Don't be silly, Tiberius." She chided him. "Flavia! Oh, look at them. They are so tiny." She mused, and placed the basket momentarily on the floor before her hand rested gently on Flavia's shoulder. She embraced her, then kissed the forehead of each of her nieces and nephew. Each one of them was precious.
  25. Marcus hated this fucking season. He wished he could squeeze his neck until the life drained from Helios' smug face. Yet.. both of them knew it would never happen. Helios was too valuable, and the Domina along with a woman who looked to enjoy the opium was sitting right there. Right there. Slowly Marcus' smile began to strain under the situation. He hated being trapped -- and he hated knowing that Calvunus was having the time of his life. Especially when it was away from him. The question still rang out in his mind, and it took his long for him to think of an adequate excuse. Finally, he had found one and his source of salvation lay on reclining and gestured with his finger towards the Domina of the Domus Venus. "Unfortunately for us," He said, tried his absolute best to sound sincere and sighed dramatically. His free hand rested on his chest as he did so. "I am busy tending to protecting the Domina of the establishment. I can't let any possible harm come to her, so you see," He grinned, pulled Helios close and gave him a loud, condescending kiss on the forehead. It made a loud and drawn out 'muaaaaah' sound. "I am too busy for you, goldylocks." Helios Titinia Novella
